Outstanding technical support and the best way I've found to keep a local copy of my blog posts and pages. Managing six blogs with MarsEdit. The lack of "extras" is a strength for what MarsEdit does.

Have used it for years, and it is absolutely best in class, ideal for my work which involves posting to many blogs and editing posts. It survived the change in ownership well. I'm pleased.

I've relied on MarsEdit for years for posting to all my blogs. It's really nice having offline copies and drafts that I can edit and hit Command-S on like with any normal Mac document. WordPress's online UI keeps getting better and better, but there's no substitute for having a local copy. Having local copies has come in handy a few times to do a quick search across my whole blog for some bit of text -- perhaps to make a quick change across multiple articles. It's so easy I take it for granted now. There is one non-blogging purpose I've used MarsEdit for a couple of times. I've used the Markdown feature to dash off an email that I really wanted to be in rich text, with bullet points and distinct headers. I enter the Markdown text, copy the rich text from the Preview window, and paste it in my email.

Mars Edit is a capable, yet simple-to-use editor for Wordpress (and other) based blogs. I'm only using it for Wordpress (self-hosted) blogs, so I cannot comment on how well it integrates with other blogs. In the context of your blog, ME allows you to create and update articles as well as stand-alone pages. I like the ability to switch between HTML and Rich Text editing (I am *not* the world's greatest HTML buff), and seeing the results in the preview window updating live is a great help. Since you can do much of that from within WP itself, the killer feature of ME is being able to create articles off-line and later synch them to your Blog. During sync, articles (and static pages) that I wrote on-line are synced back to ME. I found that ME does this very well. Offline editing is important to me because I compose most of my articles on my *ooooold* laptop, being on the road, between meetings, or (usually) sitting in a quaint, but lovely Coffee Shop without internet access. I don't know why, but that's simply where I write best. In a direct comparison with on-line editing from within WP I found that I prefer to edit my text in ME, and then upload. A personal preference, for sure, but still... There are some minor quibbles or features that I wish ME would implement to make my experience even more pleasant (chiefly amongst them being able to select between templates for common wp templates like 'twenty-eleven'. Not everyone is able to extract HTML formatting from WP's templates and transfer them to ME. Well, at least *I* am not. Having that (or a template that is close enough) would really be the icing on the cake. And now to my current pet topic: To those who think that ME's price is 'too expensive': Please reconsider. I know that in the age of the App Store where the ongoing race to the bottom kills software fast it has become fashionable call software that cost more than $1 'expensive'. But seriously, you as the customer have three options: - Don't purchase because the value isn't right for you. Fair, but please do not comment on the software's features. - Purchase because you DO find the value proposition justifiable. Then comment on the features, but do not say it should be cheaper. You got it's worth. - Shut up, make a better product, and offer it for less. *That* is what 'real men' do. Guess why there aren't better offline WP editors available for less available on the Mac. Personally, I find the price for ME to be well justifiable. It's rock solid. You get personal support from the Author, which I find very appealing. But most importantly: It costs less than 10 coffees (I average two at my coffee shop, so I spend more in a week on coffee than I have spent on ME in eternity), for crying out loud! Is that really expensive? Admittedly, my coffee is - but then I'm prepared to pay for that as well. Ok, off the soapbox...

This blog editor is nice and works as advertised. The only think the dev should consider is the price tag. I mean, for $40 I expect a fully loaded pro blog editor and that is not the case. $9.99 justify. Higher not. I rate this 4.5 stars to get the devs do some thinking. If next time the price is the same I will rate this 2 stars. Think about it.

I really want to like MarsEdit. A) There are still some areas where Live Writer wins out and B) with price comparison (Life Writer == Free), MarsEdit just doesn't seem quite competitive. I understand that the developer for MarsEdit is a one man shop and we have to give him a break in this regard of price, but as far as features go, he should be able to exceed MS Live Writer. At the end of the day, if he could just surpass the feature limitation I think we could justify the cost. Dev: have you considered a lower price for a limited time until you've surpassed the feature set of Live Writer?

Nice update -- I'm especially glad that the "Fix issue that caused Autosaved posts to get "stuck" and recover on every launch" bug is squashed. That run really bugged me and I had to run down and delete the offending file so it wouldn't keep telling me it had some saved auto-post. Just want to add that MarsEdit has been a revolutionary aid to my blogging and I can hardly imagine writing blogs without it. The program has paid for itself 100 times over in terms of time and effort saved. 10 stars, if that were possible.

I have been using this for a couple of weeks now and I find it outstanding. I use it to update my wordpress blog, and it's so easy to use. I love the preview mode so you can see instantly how things are going to look. But I guess my favorite thing is you can write/edit a blog entry without actually being online. I travel quite a bit and use it in airports then wait til I have a connection to upload it. Works very well. I would recommend this!

Incredibly useful and easy to use! So, I'd been creating my WordPress posts in my browser for a few weeks (having just started out) and it's pretty slow and clunky. And then I happened to see someplace on the web mention MarsEdit...I think it was Daring Fireball. So, I downloaded it and gave it a try. OMIGOD, this program is *heaven* after editing in my browser, or editing in an external text editor and then pasting into the browser. The program is so easy to use and has so many features that speed up post creation that I was able to create a new post in about 1/2 the time it took me before -- and this on my very first time using MarsEdit. I love the preview mode, I love that I can insert images and see how they work (and the images are loaded to WordPress at the same time), I love that I can now do all kinds of HTML markup of my text with simple pull-down menus and no have to remember them or look them up, I love that I can save drafts and store them locally, and send my drafts to drafts to WordPress as either a post or draft. I love the little bookmarklet that allows me to grab anything in my browser and send it to MarsEdit to turn it into a post....I could go on and on, as you can tell. So, this program is TOTALLY worth the $30 I just paid for it...heck, it just paid for itself in the first half hour of use. In my work as a freelancer, time is money, and this program is literally going to save me hundreds of dollars a week in time saved. After editing in my posts in my browser or external text editors, I feel with this program that I just left the 1990s and entered the 21st century. It's that good. If I could give this program 10 stars, I would. I'm just blown away by how much time it's already saved me and will save me in the months ahead. Try it, buy it. I don't think you'll regret it if you spend any time at all creating posts for your blogs. Btw, did I say I love this program? :)

I have played with MarsEdit and it's a solid product with a promising future. One thing I would love to see is true Joomla support and then it would be a product I could recommend to all my customers with Macs. Jommla just passed the 3mil mark download for their 1.5x product in just a year so it's a large viable market.
