Browser remote control for iTunes.

Overview

browserTunes allows you to remotely control iTunes from any Web browser. Just point the browser to http://yourmac:8080 (where "yourmac" is the name or IP address of your Mac) and you can play songs, pause, get information about the song playing, view and play playlists.

browserTunes works fine for PDA browsers and perhaps also with phone-based browsers. So if you have an Airport Express in your living room and your computer with iTunes in the basement, you can control the music from a handheld browser. Or, if you just have two computers and only one has your iTunes music collection, you can still control it from anywhere.

My friends can view it and control it, but they can't hear it. I will rate this program 5 stars all the way down if you can tell me how they can hear it.

Hey, this app. is great. I have an odd setup. I have a qtss running with a client mac next to it playing streaming stations in itunes. I have the client's audio out connecting into the mic "in" of the server. The server has a copy of qt broadcaster taking the incoming audio connection (mic input), and then generating a .sdp file on the server as a unicast. So, then I listen to the audio stream via my cell phone. But going one step futher, I use browserTunes on my cell phone via the web app. to control what I listen to. Very simple app. Like what you did for the "pda" viewing option. Your instructions a clear. The GUI is clean. I've been using the app. for a week now with the cell loading mp3 tracks and streaming stations. Can't say the app. has reacted in a bad way.

Is it in any way possible to set up a password for this program? I'd like to run it but if people know my IP-Adress they can change my iTunes and I don't like this. And: Yes there are people who do stuff like that.

I really like this. Itll be great for our headless jukebox. Some sort of way of uploading songs to itunes would be a bonus.

might be a cool ap if the stability issues get worked out. I would like to have the ability to add a song to the play list without it playing that song immediately. Ideally it would have the ability to do the following: 1) insert song to play next 2) play song immediately 3) put song at end of playlist 4) view and delete songs from the playlist

Very cool software! I use it to stream music from my aluminum PB to my Lombard so I can keep the Lombard connected to my good speakers and use the Aluminum PB anywhere in the house. My biggest request- support for shared music playlists. I can play the music that is streamed off of my powerbook and see the song info about the currently playing song, but I cannot view the playlist itself. This would be an awesome feature if it could be added.

If they can work out the kinks, this will be a VERY cool toy. As it stands now, though, I seem to have to restart the thing every 5 minutes.

Suffers from instability and a few interface bugs at the moment, but overall a promising app that already works well for basic stop/start/next functionality. To the dev - I had trouble viewing any playlists, but this is on a mac that doesn't have any local music, and is only used to access itunes shares. Periodically I had to restart the deamon, and the central image map of the fancier web interface never loaded. Nice work, though, and useful, so keep refining!

I believe the point is so you can control it from other areas of your home... i.e., you are within audio range of your speakers. That's how I use it, and I'd been looking for something like it for ages. Of course if you have some kind of realtime streaming software that can grab the output of iTunes, then your friends could hear it too.
