Escape overview

Escape is a tile-based puzzle game in the style of "Adventures of Lolo" or "Chip's Challenge." Unlike either of those games, Escape doesn't rely at all on reflexes--it's all about your brain.

Although Escape comes with hundreds of levels, the game places an emphasis on the composition of new puzzles. Thus Escape has a built-in level editor and facilities for automatically sharing puzzles with other players.

What’s new in version 2016-09-05

Updated on May 09 2016

Version 2016-09-05:

Note: Although Finder indicates no version number for this application, the developer refers to it as version 2016-09-05.

  • smanage.cc: Fix bug in version 201609031 where solutions could never be uploaded.
  • player.cc: Solutions in the player file are now sorted in numeric order (by level MD5), not by semi-numeric hash function.
  • solution.cc: Totally redid how solutions are stored in memory, making it possible to fix the long-standing bug where a player could only have one non-bookmark solution. (Thanks, noname and almost everyone!)
  • loadlevel.cc: Disabled the standalone solution manager. This legacy thing has been undocumented for years. The bookmark manager (press 'b') does more stuff and works correctly. (If it lacks a feature that you miss, let me know!)

Too bad this does not work on my OSX... And to think I was so excited that there was a Chip's Challenge 'like' game for the osx. :(. *sigh*

I like this game a lot and have already made and uploaded a level (Teleport Maze). However, I have a suggestion/question. I want to change my user's name, because I accidentally entered it wrong when I first made it and I can't start a new one because it would take a long time to get to where I was. Suggestion: make it so you can rename users in Escape. Question: is there any way to do it now, by modifying the package contents (I know you can modify it; it was by doing that I managed to rename/delete custom levels. How about something to do that in Escape too?)? I hope you can help.

Because the game is written with the SDL for portability, using the Mac interface standards is pretty hard (especially since I don't have access to a Mac!). But that's not really an excuse for the interface itself, which is not great. Sound and animation are coming soon. Thanks for the comments, guys!

A simple mind can easily mistake this for a simple game. If you like complex pattern puzzles, like enigma or chess. This is a simple game that can push your mind to its limits. I found it very rewarding as I discovered solutions. It is high frustration at its best. A refreshing exercise for your mind. Create levels simple enough for a four year old to levels that can crumble a mind master. A healthy mind expanding game with out the glitter. It has my vote.

I find the game very nice as it is now, please don't change it. The only missing ingredient is music/sound.

Actually I like the look of this game. Not every game must have OpenGL 3D graphics to be FUN. However, what make this game seem 'old' - in my ESHO - is the DOS 'feel' of how it operates. Would it be possible to make (atleast) the Mac version more 'Mac-like'? It would definately be more 'fun' if we only needed to solve the puzzles, and not how to get to run.

As long as you like games that look like they're from 1986, you might enjoy this game.
