PPP/PPPoE Color Menu

1.0.1
20 May 2006

Changes colors to reflect status of your connection.

Overview

PPP/PPPoE Color Menu is a twiddle that makes your PPP or PPPoE menu show red when you are not connected, and green when you are connected. And with the PPP menu, when a connect or disconnect is in progress, the icon flashes red & green. The Apple-installed PPP/PPoE menus is black, and the only way to tell that you are disconnected is that the very tiny "connection dots" are grey. PPPoECM makes the status much clearer. No modifications in /System/ needed!

Red-green colorblind? Or just don't want something that colorful? Also included are PPPContrastMenu & PPoEContrastMenu (connected = black, disconnected = greyed out).

And this archive also includes PPPGothMenu & PPPoEGothMenu, where connected = bruise-purple and disconnected = blood-red! Spooky, I tell ya.

What's new in PPP/PPPoE Color Menu

Well, it works and I love it. However, installation implies to copy a package, modify it and add it to login items. Not really hard, but this will turn off many potential users. What about an AppleScript to install it?

I've honestly never bothered with AppleScript at all. Wouldn't have the first idea how to write that script, much less make it robust enough to handle stuff like incorrect permissions, files missing, etc. The instructions are really simple and quite safe. Shouldn't take anyone more than 4-5 minutes to install. Glad someone likes it though! 1500+ people have downloaded it over the last few years from MacUpdate alone and this is the first comment so far. -S.McC.
