TuneTags is an application that works with iTunes to let you add keywords, or "tunetags" to your music.

Have you ever realized that many songs do not fit into just ONE Genre? Or, you want to note which songs are good for Driving, are Romantic, or just about anything else useful to know? You can make playlists for these things, but it would be better if the song itself could be marked with many different keywords, or "tunetags" that let you know more about each song. Then, smart playlists could be made that show you all your good 80's Driving music, or Romantic Folk music, or Defiant Rock

Great app. I was always frustrated trying to create smart playlists for decades because going off the year of release was not always accurate (re-releases, greatest hits albums). The ability to create a tag for "70s" is fantastic. Have also used to tag lots of other types of music (covers, cities - for songs named after cities, etc.). Really great.

Would be amazing is tags could be linked with Last.fm, take all the leg work out of manually going through a large (mine is 40k+) library

cknox: True. This just makes your keywords (tunetags) consistent, and hopefully is faster than using Get Info, tabbing or clicking into the Comments field, deciding what separator to use, etc. That's why I'm not charging for it - it isn't indispensable. :-) I intend to make it even more useful, too, adding the ability to add/remove a tunetag from many songs, make/modify playlists, and more. Got any ideas? (8/12/2004, Version: 0.86)

Then, smart playlists could be made that show you all your good 80's Driving music, or Romantic Folk music, or Defiant Rock music or even music good for getting psyched before a competition.

TuneTags lets you mark each song using many tags from a list, or Library, of tags. It comes with a starting Library of tags, but you can add your your own to the Library as you think of new tunetags that describe your music.
