Hotkeys for controlling iTunes.   Free

iTunesCheck is a program that I wrote after checking out several other programs and not finding exactly what I wanted. It provides global hot keys for controlling iTunes without switching to it, it provides a hotkeyable floating window that shows the currently playing song, and it provides a hotkey for quickly finding a song without switching to iTunes.

Yes, all of these things are, of course, available directly in the iTunes interface. But I find it cumbersome to have to switch to iTunes just to figure out what song is playing. This is faster.
Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.3 or later, iTunes 4.5 or later

It seems to quit every now and then for no apparent reason, but other than that it's fantastic. This is the iTunes companion app that I've been looking for all of these years!

This app keeps getting better and better. My only request is to be able to Minimize/Maximize iTunes, from the Dock, using iTunesCheck. Other than that, this app has every HotKey imaginable now. Thumbs up and high fives to the author for making the most indispensible iTunes companion. If you haven't downloaded this yet, do yourself a favour and do it, do it, do it!

How come iTunes start up at boot when this tool is placed as a startup item ? I would love it if it did not. Otherwise a very cool tool. the only thing that makes me use this is basically the graphics. Since I have purchased Synergy and have SizzelingKeysForiTunes aswell which both do not start iTunes at boot.

Try unchecking "Show info window: When song changes" If this is checked, iTunesCheck queries iTunes every few seconds, so if iTunes isn't launched, iTunesCheck will launch it automatically. This worked for me.

How come none of these apps that pop up an info window can show the album art in that info window? That would be awesome!

SizzlingKeys shows Album cover artwork, but I like iTunesCheck for the ability to choose and search Playlists.

By far the best free iTunes controller available. However, these things could be fixed. Sorry if these are already there, but obviously they weren't obvious enough for me to notice :) They are mostly in the area of User Interface:

- When using the built in song changer (a very nice idea), there is no easy option to just escape and close the window. I just press enter and that punishes me by changing my active playlist to the library. Ouch.

- How about a WYSIWYG pop-up editor? Also (but separately), something that allows you to change the shape of the pop-ups would be nice, too. For instance, making the curves around the edges smaller so that small text fits nicely into the pop-up.

- Add an option to remove that cumbersome (but pretty) start-up screen.

- A shortcut to quit the application.

Otherwise, brilliant!

This app is blowing my mind! The floating windows are absolutely beautiful! I can't believe I can choose Playlists and do a search as well! Folks, do yourselves a favour and download this now!

P.S. I already rated this app above so I'm not gonna rate it again, although it deserves 10 stars ;-)

Having trouble getting iTunes Check to pull the album cover artwork from the songs folder. I have a 'folder.jpg' file in each album folder but iTunes Check doesn't see it. I have 'Look for art in song folder' checked btw. Any suggestions?

It seems that when I edit JPEGs in GraphicConverter, iTunesCheck won't display them in the Info Window. Any ideas?
