ProteusMenu is a menu extra for Proteus, the best IM-Client for Mac OS X. ProteusMenu is visible even if Proteus is not running, same as the iChat menu. See the FAQ at http://www.schempp.ch/?page_id=42 for some advanced tips.
What's new in ProteusMenu
Version 1.5:
compatible with Proteus 4.08 and up
contact menu is sorted the way you set in Proteus (name, status, service)
rendezvous contacts do now work correctly
animated status display
supporting all Proteus sound, speech and popup (only with Growl) events
supporting remote daemon connection
displays the Offline image if no account is connected
new hidden feature: simple menu like iChat
preferences are now saved inside the default proteus settings file
fixed a bug where the wrong time (the current time) was displayed for incoming messages
fixed a bug where the wrong image was displayed if an incoming message was waiting and you went offline
bug fixed that could lead to contacts being displayed multiple times
bug fixed that displayed no contact name for new messages (thanks to cflorido)
Maybe you should reword that to "Probably the best" to be more correct.
Some peoples prefer other clients, and some prefer the official IM clients for what they do.
This is a question of taste and habbits.
The last version was kinda buggy and didn't work. But v1.3 is working OUTSTANDING! This is a great program that compliments another great program. Thanks for writing this!
Okay, as of 1.3 this menu now officially rocks. I now have iChat (and menu) for AIM/Rendevous and Proteus (and this menu) for YHO/MSN/Jabber... and there's just about equal parity.
No more waiting for Apple and other IM parterships -- this is it, boys and girls...
Alright! I like this! It'd be nice if my JUST a new message window opened up when I select a contact to message from the menu (currently my contact list also pops up). Other than that this is great! :)
