Hesperides overview

Hesperides is an adaptation of Didier Willis' Dragon Flame, a sindarin (the grey-elven language, invented by J.R.R. Tolkien) dictionary, to Mac OS X.

So, Mac Lovers can now be lambendili too : Hesperides integrates Didier's sindarin dictionary, distributed on his Web site as a XML file, with a state-of-the-art Mac OS X interface and the Narmacil engine (to display the words using Tengwar).

Note: While the software is classified as free, it is actually donationware. Please consider making a donation to help support development.

This is not about the app but about the subject. The most current "fictional" language of strong interest seems to be Na;'vi. It will gain even more interest after Aug 27,2010. FYI: It took a PhD linguistics professor 4 years to create it! He already has indicated that he plans to expand it. It already has a complete dictionary, on-line translator, grammatical rules, and pronunciation guide as well as manuals and virtual classes. It actually seems to be currently headed into becoming a "real" language.

Bain a lûmen! I'm just getting into Sindarin, after many years tinkering with Quenya on and off. This is going to save me some eyestrain :-) I'd like to see a text file explaining at least what "Sindarin" and "Sindarin Classic" means. It's not obvious, but looking at the screenshot of Dragon Flame, I see it controls how the Tengwar are rendered. Not a big problem :-) **lûmen is the best attempt I can make at "timely": "occasion" lû (borrowing an "m" from the OS form *lûme) + adj. suffix -en.
