I don't understand why the filemaker people couldn't have just linked against iodbc which would have given everyone free drivers for postgresql and mysql and it's OS level integration, not extra crap.

I've been using the Actual ODBC Driver for a number of years now with MS Excel and MySQL. They work great, never had a problem.

Re: anonymous comment below: Actual ODBC drivers are 100% compatible with built-in OS X support, and do not interfere in any way. Our installer installs iODBC 3.51 components, which are backwards compatible with the iODBC 3.06 components provided by Apple.

From what I read these actual drivers install their own manager etc. possibly interfering with built-in ODBC stuff in OS X, tho i'm not certain. it's the easiest solution though. I managed to hack together another solution with MyODBC but Excel doesn't like, only FMP so far. and might be using non-free pieces.... :-/
