Create auto-playable CDs.

Overview

CDStartBuilder gives you the ability to create auto-playable CD-ROMs for Windows, including the ability to launch an installer or other program, launch help documentation like HTML pages, PDFs, and other text files. All you need is a splash screen, and you can also include your own CD-ROM icon.

An auto-playable CD-ROM is a CD which once inserted into your computer's CD drive will open and display a window giving you the option to launch an installer, display a Readme file, or browse the CD.

Pointless piece of software if you use a mac. The auto play only works on windows. On a mac you can only browse the cd, please forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what the finder was created for??

It's a little strange to be giving ratings to a product which has just come out. My view: if you have not tried the product, please don't rate it.

For one thing, the price listed here on MU is wrong. For another this software is targeted at developers or content creators who service the "other" platform. There may be a lot of people who create corporate content or education titles on a Mac, and need a simple way to deploy auto-start CD-ROMs on Windows. This developer also makes a software installer, which targets the Mac and Windows. So it is a natural extension to add auto-start CD-ROM options for their customers. This situation reinforces my belief that It is becoming increasingly difficult to justify doing any work for the Mac community as the reaction to virtually *any* niche or focused software is openly hostile.

Um... yea... I'd agree with the other posts. This software package doesn't really make sense for a Mac user. Yes, it does create an autorun function for the PC side, but, so will most CD burning software packages (ie Roxio Toast). Toast is only 20$ more, and does a heck of a lot more. Why a Mac user would need to buy this, or even want to, is beyond me. You'd be better off spending time doing research online (all of 5 minutes) to find tutorials on how to do this.

ONLY FOR WINDOWS CDROMS. I create CD-ROMs for Windows clients all the time. This type of program would potentially be a real time saver. (If you're complaining about why this only creates AutoRun CDs for Windows, just read the program description again.)
