Nice looking and handy for simple visualizations.

The equation editor is cute in that it does "real" math notation. Unfortunately that sometimes just makes it more painful to input the expression you want. Instead of just typing it in you have to thrash around a bit to get things up to or down to where you want them.

The inability to easily save and retrieve your work and other limitations keep you from attempting anything very complicated.

Graph-o-matic is similar and does very nice 3-D surfaces (but isn't free).

The older and clunkier MathPad isn't as slick as either of the above but it can do most anything and is considerably more useful for real work.

Two thumbs up for MathPlot.

Thanks Marius, for writing a native Mac OS X math app like this. It's stable, intuitive, has some help already built in.

Because it is so good, Marius is going to get plenty of enhancement requests!

One cool aspect of the graph is that you can print it out, and if you choose Preview instead of a real print, the PDF you get is a nice scalable PDF rather than a bitmap, so it looks really nice when imported into other programs.

It's a great model application of what a Mac app should be like.

As the UT2004 folks would say: "Ownage!"

Interface: marvellous, very ease to use and powerful (math pad), very intuitive.

The only missing feature:
Plotting functions with a parameter, e.g. x^n for n = 1..10
The parameter has to be changed manually in the math pad. Algebra Graph's slider and animation, and MathPlot gets 5 stars in "Features" and "Value" as well because it is perfect!

hmm. The best I have seen so far. Really clean and simpler than many of the other programs. One (possible) good idea would be to use some syntax to accurately describe functions to input, possibly using latex or mathml something.

I am really sorry about these server problems. looks like my "private" server was also put down. Thankfully the university is giving me webspace, which will be up by tomorrow. Again, sorry for these inconveniences.
Very frustrated,
Marius

Since I cannot download this I can't review it, but I sure would like to. Can't traceroute or ping the download site. Any way to post this on another server, or even via bittorrent?

Wow! MathPlot is great. Its a must have! If your missing Algebra Graph on Mac OS X then you need to download this software. In my opinion MathPlot is a lot more powerful than Algebra Graph. Supports variables, functions in functions, it has a Math Pad, where you can solve some math functions and the most awsome intuitive user interface, that even beats professional commercial programs like Mathematica.

Great Work!

Yes, the interface is great and the math pad is a very good idea. The program is fu to use. But MathPlot is only partially more powerful than Algebra Graph. If I want to demonstrate parameters it lacks many of Algebra Graph features. I have to define parameters as variables e. g. f(x) = cos(n*x), n = 2 and must change the parameter by hand in the math pad. No slider, no animation. If the Algebra Graph slider and animation would be added, MathPlot would be perfect!

The server is out of service, it seemed to serve on the Mac at developer's home with dynamic DNS...

Hi! I'm the server admin. Because the server is on a dial-up connection, it naturally goes offline for about 5 minutes every 24 hours. After it is back online it has a different IP, you'll have to wait another 5 minutes until dyndns.org has updated the ip. Then you must restart Safari or other browser to flush the DNS cahce. Maybe somebady has some room free on a static server and could help out! :-)
