LiSA overview

LiSA, the Liquid Information Speaking Assistant tells you who your incoming messages are from and announces them as-and-when-they-arrive, not just when you log on to check your messages.

For example: "You've got a message from an important client", "You've got a reply from your lover" all with a real human voice (not computer synthesized speech).

How can LiSA know which messages are interesting to you? You tell her: LiSA can be customized to announce all incoming messages, announce only messages from people in your Address Book, or announce messages which are only from the user's Address Book unless they are replies or the words "important" or "urgent" are in the message Subject. You can also specify that she is to ignore emails from specified addresses all the time. She can talk a lot or a little - it's all up to you. She can even announce the time.

Note: This application contains in-app and/or external module purchases.

I just installed this and now my Mac chirps every 15 seconds! Also, the pre-configured contacts don't include some obvious choices that I can see, e.g. "You have a message from your mechanic". Nice idea and the voice is good, but still needs some work I think.

I used to use LiSA several years ago, that is, until it became incompatible with one of the earlier Mac OS X updates. I am not always staring at my computer screen, and I think it's very handy to have a nice voice alert you when mail arrives - especially when you're expecting an important reply, for example. The earlier version had an icon that changed color and displayed the name of the sender of the most recent mail. This icon was always visible on the screen. I guess I prefer that to having the sender's name hidden in the menu bar, as it is now. But it's still a great program and I look forward to updates with extra features.

What a lousy program! The dozen or more times I've enabled it on my otherwise perfectly functioning MBP running 10.7.1, after about a couple of hours it slows the system down to a crawl and pretty much locks it up. I checked on Activity Monitor, which shows that LISA gobbles up 3 GBs of virtual RAM and 1 GB of real RAM. Each time, I have to force-quit LISA and reboot to get control of my computer again. Sorry I wasted my money, even if it was just $1.99.

*SIGH.* Oh, HINT/TIP FROM ANONYMOUS... "Vicky" doesn't sound like LiSA because LiSA is a person talking and "Vicky" and the other voices sound like the computer from "War Games." So get out of the turn off your Atari and exit the 1980's. I love LiSA. It's easy, it's clever, it helps immensely. It separates good email from noteworthy email with a polite alert. It can import your address book entirely or card by card. Easy. I also love that if "important" is in the subject line it will alert me that it is important. Viva La LiSA!

I would be thrilled to have my email announced upon arrival with a personalized message, but the fact is that this program simply DOES NOT WORK for me. I entered my correct POPmail address and password and I keep getting the error message that says that the POP mail server does not accept my password. Hey, fix this bug and I'd be happy to buy LiSA.
