Crm4Mac3.0.2b1

10 March 2007

Contact manager, integrates iCal/Mail/AddressBook.

Overview

Crm4Mac is a professional contact manager. The most important key elements are already in your hands. With Mac OS X, you have powerful applications like Address Book, iCal and Mail already installed. The only thing missing is the link between all these applications; one application which links your events, mail and documents to your private and business contacts. This is precisely what Crm4Mac does for you.

Crm4Mac gives the user full insight in all communications. From each contact you can access all relevant info immediately. A single mouse click gives you insight of all correspondence on paper, email and meetings. In this sense, Crm4Mac offers you professional contact management with the ease of use of a true Apple application.

What's new in Crm4Mac

Version 3.0.2 beta 1:
  • non-standard date formats (as defined by the user in System Preferences) no longer prevent you from creating events, to dos and mail messages in Crm4Mac
  • the date format used in the activity list now uses the user's "full" date format, that can be edited in System Preferences (International)
  • you can now create and edit activities that are linked to a company i.s.o. to a person
  • we've added Spanish localisation (te be proofed)

The developper's site states this: "Leopard differs a lot from the previous operating systems. It appears too much work and commercial not interesting to create a Leopard version of Crm4Mac. We decided to stop development for the moment." When I pay that much for a piece of shareware I expect the people behind it to be serious... Oh Well !!!

When will we see a universal binary version? It's almost 2007!

Some people are giving harsh feedback on crm4mac, but they are unfairly comparing it to professional packages that sell for many times more. I have used crm4mac for my two small businesses for over one year and it has done a great job. Its easy to use and more powerfull than native Apple software or any competitor in the same price class (I tried most of them). A few times I contacted support with questions and they were prompt to get back to me. They were honest about the capabilities and the plans for version 3.0. I have no complaints and have recommended this to others with small businesses.

Doesn't work for me as the application crashes at start. Have been inquiring about the issue to the developers for more than two months and haven't received any reaction. Sad to see that the Developers of a promising looking app don't answer any email where an blocking error is reported.

I previously gave a good rating for CRM4Mac but they introduced a serious bug in version 2.0 with auto synchronization on startup and did not fix it in 2.1. I reported the bug but they did nothing about it. If you have a lot of email in your "on my mac" account DO NOT enable CRM4Mac to synchronize with it or enable it. I could open the program the first time and then it starts syncronizing. The next time I try to open the program it will hang on the startup screen. The only way to recover is to completely delete every part of CRM4Mac from your computer including the undocumented helper application. At the very least you should enable the logging to console option in preferences as there is no other way to see what went wrong. I suggested when 2.0 exihibited this bug that IBizzi include a way to disable auto synchronizatiion at startup so that at least the program would open. They didn't. I have had high hopes for their approach which is to leverage icalendar and addressbook but their implementation has never risen above beta quality code.

The idea seems good, I like the screenshots, but it needs to work. Everytime I start this program I get an alert that says "Application cannot start. An internal error has occurred during the startup." I got this alert with the previous version and with this 2.1b1 version I have emailed the developer but haven't received a response.

I had been using CRM4MAC before with some problem after a while. Now things seem to work great agaim. It is a simple CRM and does the work. Some features more features are needed(e.g. write notes directly in Word) but we are on the right direction. It is not cheap but still woth the money.

The idea was good, but it took the programmer half a year to develop a Tiger compatible version. I've bought DayLite in the meantime. And it ROCKS.

The new version is much better than previous versions. Faster and better intergration with Address Book, iCal and Mail. Can't see it taking over from NUDC just yet (would be neat if it could) but for people who don't need that level of complexity, Crm4Mac is great. Well worth the money - even though I'm having some problems with registration but hopefully that will be cleared up soon.

Nice idea, doesn't really work however. This application is nothing more than another way of launching iCal, Adress Book and Mail. As you can view everything in this app but if you want to change something the corresponding app is launched. A nice note found in the app: Use iCal to make agendas then relaunch CRM4Mac. WTF! Relaunch? How is that usable? Why would I pay $50,- for that?

WOW! The very concerns I aired when this app first showed have come true--no current version that can reliably work with Tiger! If you are business person using this app, then you are in big trouble. These "integration" programs simply DO NOT work in a professional environment when they reply on others to function.

a pretty nice integration of Adress Book, Mail, and iCal, but too expensive at $49. i'd buy it for $19.95 or something, but without adequate project management (listing sequential items) and handling of To Do's, i will keep looking for a better solution. the CRM in the name is a bit misleading too, i wasn't looking for a real CRM tool, but any CRM worth it's salt has a pipeline with trackable sales stages.

I have been using CRM4Mac for nearly 6 months and I find it a very good application though I miss a some features as a small project planner. The new beta version improves the speed which was very much necessary since the application became very slow after adding information during a 6 months period. I recomend it to anyone looking for a simple easy to use CRM system

Promising app, but WAY overpriced for the limited features it offers. Bring down the price to $20-$25 and it might be worth buying. It needs a bit more polish and some other PIM features to be worth $49.

I believe that Formation does more of what CRM should do and does it for less. I was part of the beta for CRM and although I like it, the integration part of existing software is not the best scheme for business use and I too qualify CRM as a personal and not professional CRM. Formation does integration and more and be had for less registration cost. To each his own though and if CRM toots your horn...so be it.

A very nice and useful program that integrates indispensable iApps like Address Book, iCal and Mail and, unlike the new MS Entourage's Project Center, does not organize entries according to Projects, which can be a bit misleading from time to time, but according to people, which is more clearly laid out.

I concur with those saying $50 is pricey for this program, but do not agree with the assertion that tight integration with apple's software is a mistake. So what if apple changes something. It's not like I'm throwing iCal in the garbage. As for the program itself, it's not bad. Not there yet, but it was very cool to have all my emails and calendar stuff in one place in less than a minute. I'll keep my eye out for progress. Also, what is wrong with eSellerate?

I agree with some of the other comments. $50 seems a bit expensive for hooking together someone else's . This product is seems to be missing some of the key features that I am looking for in a PIM that are not in the other products mentioned either: Integration or Synchronization of Entourage,, ICal, and Address Book, so the user can seamlessly Fax, create email, envelopes, Word documents, schedule financial transactions in Quicken 2004. User defined Priority Labels, so the user can use their own, Covey, Franklin, or whatever Priority Labels they desire instead of the developers (Low Med, High, I, II, III, Urgent, Normal, Unimportant, etc.) A customizable print output, with predefined layouts to the most popular preprinted day planner pages so that users could print their information to their favorite day-planner pages if they use one, such as Daytime, or Franklin-Covey. To date, as far as I am aware, there is not a single PIM for the Mac that does this, but plenty exist for Windows. If anyone happens to know of one please let me know so I can buy it.

Piggy Backing Not Allowed there is a CRM solution for Mac OS X and it's called DayLite. v1 sucked but the 1.6 is woderful. Now Up To Date sucks and crashes at least 3 times a day for me!

Programmer has chosen to use the eSellerate Software Delivery Method and I say to all those programmers who buy into that nonsense--no way, no how. I avoid that crappy computer invading scheme like the plague that it is. This is not the current version listed here, but the newest version does not even have a help menu. App is slow as it gathers info. Still in development and a way to go. I might have further followed the development and even registered, but not with eSellerate...the programmer lost me.

I agree that this needs to be on its own platform. Why? As a professional user of contact management software it is imperative that it operates consistently. Piggy backing on Apple software is a dangerous proposition at best given some of the shenanigans that Apple has pulled throughout its history, ranging from updates that take for bloody ever, ceasing software, etc. You simply cannot operate a business and rely on it. There is a dire need for a first-class contact management software as Now Up-to-Date and Contact has gone to the dogs, but this app is not it. On a personal level this and other apps like it work, but only at that level.

. First off. This is a great app! They are doing what Apple should be. However, this app is not worth $50. For $50 they should be utilizing their own DB and resources. Instead, they are placing an interface on Apple products, albeit a well done interface. Drop the price to $19.95 and it will be appropriate. And BTW, the post below has to be from the developer. Pretty lame.

Crm4Mac may be the best CRM ever! And at only $50 it's a bargain. In fact, it would be a bargain at three times that! Wasted time costs $$$ -- and Crm4Mac will save that much wasted time and effort -- perhaps every day you use it! The concept is awesome -- build a CRM links seamlessly to the powerful Apple apps (iCal, Address Book, Mail, etc.) The interface is easy to navigate, lean and isn't bloated by the useless 'features' of other CRM's. Macs have needed a great CRM -- and this looks like it. It will be fun to watch this app mature. GREAT WORK!

An impressive product, It seems to integrate well. I have no idea why Apple hasn't done a better job at this in the first place, but this would definitely fill the bill. The only thing keeping me back is the $50! Make it $25.00 and I'll be forkiing it out, otherwise I'll wait to see what Apple does.
