StatusMonitors2.1

25 October 2006

Monitor your system and much more.

Overview

StatusMonitors provides a desktop display of the status of your computer system as well as the status of other computers on the local network. The application includes a client for displaying the status information, a preference pane plugin for System Preferences, and a service to share status information with other computers. The client monitors volume/folder/file usage, memory usage, network load and processor usage. The service provides information about memory usage, network load and processor usage to networked computers. The appearance of the client, the monitors to be displayed, and service sharing are controlled from the preference pane.

What's new in StatusMonitors

Version 2.1:
  • Fixed some memory leaks which caused the memory usage to grow over time.
  • Fixed a problem with columns not displaying after being enabled while the client application was not running.
  • Fixed misc. memory and thread handling issues.

Looks good, but I'd rather use Konfabulator.

Lesson: If you're going to charge an exorbitant amount for something, make sure other people don't do it better and for free.

Adding to the chorus of free, opensource ways to accomplish the same thing as this shareware: GeekTool

The open source X Resource Graph does everything this does for free. (except the clock - use OSXPlanet for that ;)

Use this free app by nibs instead. P.S. No, I'm not nibs. I just like AquaMon a lot.

Funny you should mention Konfabulator. Reading the feature descriptions, it struck me that they sounded like several Konfabulator Widgets I've used. The only difference here is ... money. Most Widgets are freeware, and this is shareware. Go figure.
