I wonder why do people want to whine so much about something that is still under the ongoing developement.
If it is good, they have to find something that they don't like, so they can whine about it. And of course, if it's bad, they will bitch all day. Don't forget, every developer puts up the warning as: "Use at your own risk". So you download the software, you use it, then bitch at yourself if it's not your liking.
Get a life..........all those whiners out there.
v.1.6. I´m using MacOSX 1.4.2. Just installed it and I tought it would not work at all, there was no "Choose your browser" dialog box. Then I started Exposee and realized that the dialog box was open, but not in the viewable rate of my monitor. It appeared by default somewhere at the bottom left of my monitor, in an unreachable region. I changed my monitor resolution to 1280*1024 but I´m still not able to click on it. Seems like a bug! Any workarounds or suggestions?
Change the nightly build location under the preferences tab to:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-1.6a1.en-US.mac.dmg
Working as of Oct 9, 2005 (10/9/2005, Version: 1.5)
I've had no trouble with 1.4 until it stopped retrieving nightlies on 8/16.
Saw no 1.0+ nightlies past 8/16 at Mozilla. They now seem to say 1.6a1 at:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/
I'm wondering if that might be a little too bleeding edge, or if that's just where things are now.
(G4 under 10.4.2)
FireFix v1.4 does absolutely nothing when I run it. There's no "Choose Your Browser..." dialog box, the prefs don't appear, and when I (attempt to) quit my system error beep sounds with nary a message to be seen. I'm running 10.4.1.
???
Using the 1.4 version, my Firefox does not get updated. The application downloads everything, mounts the deerpark image, but when Firefox starts, it is still version 1.0.4.
I think that Deer Park may be causing some problems with FireFix - didn't seem to update properly today, and just left me with a mounted disk image. Hopefully this can be fixed before too long!
At first, I could not believe the problems some people reported about errors. But I have now found out that the tar.gz files downloaded from .Mac are in fact corrupt. The sympton of this corruption is that there is a stray Readme file and the app generates the ominous 1708 error. I could not reproduce that, because the .tar.gz file I put on my local iDisk is just fine, only the version transferred to .Mac is broken (and it affects only files in the Public folder). This is a nightmare. Anyway, I just archived the files to .zip and changed the link on MU.
I really like the same developer's CaminoKnight. I am excited to try this'n out, but I would love if it had the option to use the G4 or G5 optimized builds from various community sites.
When I try to use FireFix 1.1.1, I get the following error:
Error when accessing the FTP server
The variable bText is not defined. The server may be down or the file may not be available. Try again later.
Otherwise, it's been a good app.
Okay, I fixed the error message problem for first-time users. It should show up shortly on MU. Sorry about that (I missed it, because I already had a Prefs file and the bug only occurred when trying to create a new prefs file.
After I tried to run the application the first time, I got an error:
====
AppleScript Error
NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError: 4 (1)
====
FireFix needs to know the path for Firefox. You will know be asked to locate the application.
====
After that nothing happens and I have to force quit... :(
Expansion of the .gz file doesn't seem to work, Stuffie can't expand it, nor the finder. It seems the default path to the update in the app dpesn't work. If i simply enter the http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.mac.dmg update URL into a browser it does downoad the latest Firefox and expands it no problem. Time to fix this.
The URL from reviewer before me didn't work so here it is that worked: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.mac.dmg
in case you're having trouble downloading the latest
cheers
Strange, for the past weeks whenever Firefix has problems, all I have to do is fix the URL.
However, since today, it would download fine but get "stuck" at "Mount 'Firefox' disk image".
If FireFix is having issues finding the nightly build for 1.0x, go to the preferences and use this URL:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-1.0+.en-US.mac.dmg.gz
This is for the English version.
Everytime i try to get it to work I get an error that the server is busy or down.
Sounds like a good program until I get it working .....any suggestions?
Very well thought out and implemented. Changing the url in the prefs for the nightly build to http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-0.9/
Firefox-mac.dmg.gz solves the problem described by the other reviewer.
This is an excellent app.Works great for me on my Mac running 10.3.3.So easy it does everything for you,and if the latest build build is to buggy you can revert back to the previous.10/10
If you've used an 'official' release of FireFox and then download one of the nightly releases, you might find that the new download will ID itself in the App menu as 'Firebird' still and if that is the case, it will create some new support folders which might lose your bookmarks and other pref settings. Do a search on 'bookmarks' and you'll find them in another folder which you can copy into the 'new' 'firebird' support folder. When you get another nightly which ID's as FireFox, it will access the other folder created by the 'official' release.
How would you rate FireFix app?
