DEVONnote overview

DEVONnote is an easy-to-use, intelligent note pad capable of storing and organising plain or rich texts and file aliases. Store and manage your bookmarks in DEVONnote too, browse the Web using the integrated browser based on Apple's WebKit, capture interesting notes immediately or organize webcams. Furthermore, DEVONnote helps you sort in new stuff and supports cross and Wiki-style links.

Collect all your notes, ideas, thoughts effortlessly in one place. Take new notes with a single keystroke, save bookmarks for inspiring webpages by dragging them to DEVONnote, or capture interesting paragraphs using the Services menu. DEVONnote keeps in the background and lets you continue with whatever exciting task you are just engaged.

Store your notes and bookmarks in the self-contained database. Clip data from other apps with just a keystroke, adding it to the GTD-like inbox for later filing, or take notes with the Take Note panel. Drag-and-drop and the Services menu integrate DEVONnote seamlessly with your workflow.

What’s new in version 2.11.2

Updated on Jan 15 2019

Version 2.11.2:

This maintenance release addresses a sporadic crash when accessing the Preferences on macOS Mojave. We also fixed an issue where RTFD files were incorrectly reported as missing. The URL of clippings from the Brave and Vivaldi web browsers is now captured. The overall reliability has been the primary focus of this release.

Improved
  • The URL is now captured when clipping from the Vivaldi and Brave web browsers.
  • When importing browser bookmarks, the group will show the icon of the browser.
  • Improved caching speeds up resolving links.
  • Copying or dragging snippets from plain text documents doesn't include the reference URL anymore as this caused various issues in other apps.
  • Improved overall performance and reliability.
Fixed
  • Fixed an issue where certain Word documents couldn't be imported.
  • Fixed an issue where customized date formats in System Preferences weren't displayed in list views.
  • Fixed an issue where RTFD files were always reported as missing.
  • Fixed an issue where the remaining trial time wasn't updating correctly.
  • Fixed a crash or incomplete display of the window when accessing the Preferences on macOS Mojave.

This says its free now and EOL. Mine just quit working and asked for licensing info. What gives? You can't download it from their site, they don't speak of it. Now all the data in it is inaccessible until I dig into it and see if I can get it back out.

This is absolutely the best note taking application. I use it to gather all sorts useful info mostly alternative medicine, herbal stuff, etc... I used to use iNotepad, which is fine but extremely slow with a beachball running every time I start it and frequently in between. Couldn't stand it anymore. Import to DevonNote was smooth. The only small problem, it did not import pictures. But that's ok. I found a discount coupon to purchase it. It is upgradeable to the next level, DevonThing. Highly recommend.

Since I started using Evernote (and some of the excellent 3rd-party extensions like the one for VS Code) I have little to no use for DEVONThink and DEVONnote. Sad, because I love these apps, but they are no competitor for a multiplatform application that I can have in my phone, within my web browser and that keep getting better with every new release.

Does anyone know of a note-taking/organizing program that allows manual ordering of notes within a group or folder? Most programs offer the options of sorting by creation date, by edit date, or by title (alphabetically), but don't allow true ordering capability. A simple example - I have a group of notes titled WEEKLY, and there are 7 notes in that group - Sunday, Monday, etc. What note program actually allows you to ORGANIZE your notes? But I cannot arrange them in order - I'm locked into sorting options that don't apply.

I like the features of devonthink and but the display of text is a deal breaker for me. With the vast array of prefs it's maddening that there is no option for default margin control in notes. Text is always jammed up against the top and sides of the text area. It looks sloppy and difficult to read and is a scar on an otherwise refined interface. Fix this and I'll buy it.

This is a pretty good product, but take a look at SOHO Notes as well, which has an astounding range of functionality.

There is nothing like the Devon products. In the years they've been out, nothing's even approached them. They are constantly under active development by a terrific team of people. I can't explain it well .... the range of features, the capabilities of the apps themselves ... but you can try them and see for yourself!

DevonNote 1.7 generally works well (new features are nice), but seems to have something of a bug -- freezes after folders/files are deleted, and deletes only show up after quit-and-reopen.

This is an excellent product. I originally used Sticky Brain, but the recent update left me looking for a better application. I've found DEVONnote to be a perfect replacement. The transition, though not automatic, was fairly simple for my small archive. It's flexible trial period gave me more then enough time to realize it was worth the purchase price. I find myself using it a few times a day. It's folder structure makes it simple to categorize my notes, while it's quick search makes it easy enough for me to find things when I don't have time to sort. There are a ton of features and the with this recent update, the developers seem committed to making this product even better.

It's too bad this came out after DevonThink, which I bought, because DevonThink has many features I don't use at all. I mainly use it to organize text snippets for my writing, nothing fancy, and that's just exactly what DevonNote does. I might buy it just to salute the tailored fit. That and the VASTLY superior icon. Yes, I am that picky.

I mostly use the regular DevonThink application. DevonNote is a "lightweight" version of DT. Like DT it is a well written application that is suitable for many users who need a simpler scrapbook manager type program. I do feel bad for all the developers of the low-end scrapbook management/notepad type programs because the King (jr) has just moved into their turf.
