This is a very expensive app with major shortcomings.

- 1.5.3 does not seem to be able to open MP3+CDG files on my Powerbook (10.4.2). 1.1.3 'works', after a fashion, so this is what I am reviewing here.

- Playing MP3 + CDG files works (1.1.3) but the lyric text very often overwrites without proper refreshing, so becomes unreadable. Not much good for karaoke!

- There is no full screen functionality. Also, if displayed on a TV, the standard TV screen is too small to display all the lyrics.

- If you want to play MP3 + CDG on your Mac, go with QMIDI instead ($12 shareware). This works, has full screen, and no text display glitches. [I am not affiliated with the developer of QMIDI in any way]. It doesn't have the library and search functions of iStar, but the fact that it works is enough to make me overlook this.

I'd avoid this app until the developer gets serious.

Here's what I'm looking for (wishful thinking perhaps)...

• We have several hundred CD+G disks that we would need to be able to rip to the hard drive.

• We need the ability to burn replacement CD+G disks when one is damaged (It would be a while before we could switch all systems to computer).

• We want to be able to sort songs by Title, Artist, Publisher, Disk Number, Track Number, and we want to search any of these categories.

• We want do do it on Mac.

If you can give me that, I'll give you my money.

Stay AWAY FROM THIS SOFTWARE!!!!! Simply, it will NOT work on 10.4.1, the author of this software he knows about it and so this is a PURE RIPP OFF for your dollars!!! If you do NOT believe me, then waste your money!

This application is lacking a lot of polish and is definitely NOT worth $50. The behavior is too inconsistent, sometimes it'll import or play a file, sometimes not. There's no search functionality for the libraries, you can't pick a song on the fly and mark songs to play in the order they are being requested by the singers. The lyrics should appear on a separate window too. Far from a solution for professional karaoke.

It would be cool if it could be used with iTunes... maybe as an iTunes Visualizer plugin

Obsolete?

In short, OSX 10.3 has a built in Karaoke player, called QuickTime.

The only extra that iKaraoke gives is the library function, which makes it easier to select the songs.

QuickTime allows slight editing, but GarageBand can give you a lot more.

I do not like Mac software that comes as an installer package instead of a regular straightforward appliction, so except for the features, I will not recommend this program to anyone YET.

You only can play the .mp3, but than you have no text - essential for koraoke i think.
