I recently uninstalled Avid FreeDV, giving up in frustration due to the lack of documentation. However, keeping an opened mind, I've decided to give it another go. This updated version now includes Help Files (yay!) I'll be having a good read of these before I attempt it this time around.

This software is a reduced version of their professional line- it requires some work to learn it, and care in choosing the right version for your OS. Avid has free movie tutorials on their website, specifically for this free version. I really struggled until I watched them. You have to understand the concept of 'bins' and know what frame rates you are importing, and what sort of sound files you have. This is no imovie drag and drop (no offense, i like imovie just fine) it's pretty complex. I think you could make a fine film with it- but it is not for a complete novice who wants to just import some video and slap some titles on. Also if you do not download the right version for your current OS it will not work.

It does not work. Too basic when it works. 1 word: useless. Media composer is good, this is crap.

Total garbage. Too limited to be of use to professional editors, too complicated for beginners to use at all. Has dozens of windows, but combined they perform fewer functions than iMovie's one window. Cryptic buttons are used for basic functions. Only semi-stable, semi-hardware compatible. Drag-and-drop support is poor. If you refuse to pay a dime for video editing software, you get what you pay for. But if you still insist on using freeware only, try www.jahshaka.com instead.

Ummmm... doesn't display on capture, help files usless, can't import files I've captured externally. In the era of Flash, surely we could have a quick guide please? Also crashes when I'm editing with some demo files a friend gave me. This package is super average. Windows movie maker as average... but at least it works.

This is a great way to get familiar with the Avid editing interface. You can actually create some pretty cool stuff.

This app is unintuitive. And the Help files that are included are actually of no help, they just add up to confusion, because most of the features the Help tells about are disabled in FreeDV. Avid better take some time and write a separate Help for FreeDV. If they want users to like it and move to the pro apps in the future, they really have to care a bit more about the potential users.

It crashes as soon as I press the spacebar! What a joke... Mac OS X 10.3.2, dual G4/1,42GHz.
