Action FPS style mecha game.

What is Dark Horizons: Lore for Mac

Note: Dark Horizons: Lore is no longer under development, and it is no longer available for sale.

Dark Horizons: Lore is a fast action FPS style mecha game where the players stats will affect the outcome of the war and ultimately write the history of the Dark Horizons universe. This backend method of stat tracking will be the next element to be stress tested by the development team.

Dark Horizons: Lore is set in the Dark Horizons Universe in the mid 22nd century. Packed with adrenaline-pumping action, Dark Horizons: Lore puts you in command of six outrageous Mechanized Assault Vehicles or MAVs. Remotely piloted from control pods located halfway around the globe these giant war machines are bristling with the latest in 22nd Century weaponry including plasma rifles, cannons and missiles. Customize and pilot a single MAV or gain experience and take command of a MAV group. You can even take control of an entire battalion and fight with your friends as a unit. Join a conglomerate of free nations, the Federated States, or ally yourself with the resurgent Soviet block as the Eastern Confederation. Only the men and women piloting these massive machines will decide the fate of the resource rich No Mans Land.

Downloaded the latest version from the site... Completely unusable. I've yet to get into a game without it crashing. (Powerbook G4, OS 10.4.8)

iMac G3/500. Runs SLOOOWW, ridiculously low framerate - and I have heard that even G4 users suffer the same. But there is no eye-candy here that justifies such problems. Does not look any better than good old Mechwarrior2... hell, even Mario64 looks a dozen times better, and that one runs smoother under emulation in this same computer! Lore is BEGGING for some heavy optimization. Or at least write clearer system requirements, maybe something like this: "runs like crap on anything lesser than a G5".

Technically sound. It's..well....dull...Same ground covered by MechWarrior 2 many years ago. Graphics are so-so. Voice Over is annoyingly nasal. can't use the scroll feature (if you're keen on moving from the stupid one button mouse...) Once I installed the option in the support file it ran fine (though it was awful slow to load).

The key is on their website. (in the general discussion forum) It didn't take very long to find and I am not an expert at hunting down information. (Just ambitious) Enjoy! :)

This is not a demo, this is a beta, you need to apply and get a unlock key to run it. Maybe a hint about this would be appropriate.

tried to play but said a password was required that you get in an email or something-very confusing....and the .pdf file that came with it wouldn't open due because it was "either corrupted or a file that Preview doesn't recognize." What's going on?

There seems to be no way to play this. It requires some sort of account to be set up, but attempting to do so (with poor documentation, naturally) fails.
