CAD app for woodworkers.

Overview

Design Intuition now has editable 3D blueprints!

Design Intuition is a woodworking design tool for Mac OS X targeting home hobbyists and independent woodworking professionals. The robust software includes a library of customizable plans, materials list, cutting diagram and blueprints -- all without the hefty price tag usually associated with design tools.

This new version of Design Intuition represents a huge change in the way we present information and how it can be manipulated, said creator Jonathan Sand, adding that a Windows version of the software will be available before Christmas. "We took our customers' suggestions to heart and made improvements from their perspective."

GizmoLab has made many other improvements to Design Intuition. In addition to overhauling the 3D rendering engine," Sand said. We've also reduced the number of mouse clicks by thousands per day, which means less tedium, more focus on design. All-in-all our customers will have greater joy of use."

Home hobbyists speak highly of Design Intuition's easy-to-use interface and feature-laden software. I never thought I had the intellectual fortitude to use CAD design techniques until Design Intuition, said customer David Zoch. Can design and simplicity be uttered in the same breath? Absolutely.

You should NOT purchase this software. It is no longer being supported, though I image they'll still take your money. It hasn't been updated for years. The information about version 2 "coming soon" has been on there for YEARS. There is no tech support, and they will not answer your e-mails. The phone number is disconnected. I owned this product, and was sucked into paying extra for the promised version 2 - that was years ago. While the product was nice, I now have licensing issues with it (they have a bizarre licensing scheme), and there's no tech support to help. Don't waste your money. The only other product I've seen is the free Sketch program from Google.

I guess the product and the company don't exist anymore, as the link to the company's web site doesn't go anywhere.

It's too bad people are giving star ratings for website design. In any case, some of the download link issues seem to be with this site, rather than Gizmo labs. As far as the product goes, it is so far the most intuitive CAD program I've ever used. I have successfully modeled my office, and am preparing to model the furniture. Not bad for ten minutes' work. The price is reasonable for a CAD program, presuming the missing functionality isn't missing when not in demo mode. (Save and print are disabled in the demo.) Try https://secure.gizmolab.com/download/files/1.4.3.html for the download link...

It's sad that a couple of (albeit reasonable enough) gripes can lower the star rating of this product as it stands. Which, from what I've seen, at least, is one of the only products available of its kind with so many features, so elegant an interface, and so reasonably prices. Also, to the (again, reasonable) comment about giving out a lot of information, I feel the same way, but didn't get the vibe that this guy was going to really load my mailbox with spam, or sell the info to anyone else. He says as much on the site. Anyway, my two cents' worth. A really great, simple to use, and flexible piece of software IMHO.

it's a shame as well, I would have loved to have tried this -- but posting all my required information doesn't validate the tests. I can tell by your sales pitch that I probably won't be left alone to test it for quite some time. So, sorry -- I'll keep my personal and corporate information, you can keep your program. Remember, your target market has a short attention span... and filling out all that information for what? A single post on MacUpdate? You'll need to earn more headway to spike my interest than that. Coming from a Creative Director, here, so let's say I'm helping your business. In the meantime, as the user below has pointed out, spend some time coding your website properly. The design is mediocre, the coding is newbie... where's your DOCTYPE for the love of @#%?

Site registration doesn't work, so there's no way to evaluate the product. Therefore, ratings are for the obnoxious site construction the developers have used.

Registration does fail occasionally, but it's rare -- usually when you register with an email address that is already in use. This will happen, for example, if you accidentally register a second time. We're quite interested in fixing anything that inconveniences you, so please feel free to write us at support@gizmolab.com.

Design Intuition is a must-have tool for anyone who works with wood. This full-featured CAD uses powerful libraries and layout and scale functions to create full working drawings in a flash. And with 3D previews and transparency, spatial relationships are easy to visualize. Although in its infancy, Design Intuition is a versatile, stable and full-featured powerhouse. Compared to other CAD programs costing many many times more -- Design Intuition is not only the best -- its an absolute bargain. At enDesign, we are using Design Intuition to redesign an entire music store -- saving us and our client time and heartache.
