Still "coming soon" for Lion. Right. Don't believe the hype.

Sure, but not the point. "Coming Soon" for a year? Seriously. At this point, Herald certainly is the way to go. Note that there's an issue with Herald under ML 10.8. Plug-in sometimes doesn't load. Wouldn't load at all under 10.8.1. Reinstalling provided a fix, though not sure it will hold. Developer is highly responsive and may be aware of this already.

According to the app's web site, the Lion version of Mail Appetizer has been "coming soon" for months. I emailed the developer to ask for a clarification of "soon," since it seemed in this case to have a private meaning. The reply provided no answer to my question, just "no ETA at this time" and "thanks for your patience." Hard to understand how someone can claim that a release is "coming soon" when there's no ETA, outside of a blithe misrepresentation whose real purpose is to generate buzz. "Coming soon!" may be good ad copy, but IMO, before one dangles that in front of prospective users, it also should be the truth. "Thanks for your patience" is disingenuous when one keeps others on hold indefinitely. If this were a review of the developer, the marks would be low at this point.

Mail.Appetizer is now compatible with Snow Leopard. The product shows incoming mail in a translucent, overlapping window. A bit like Growl but in a larger window in which you can actually read the text (not the pictures!) and decide directly whether to delete it or to take other actions. It's a huge productivity improvement because you don't need to open mail and interrupt your work. The product is a plug-in for mail.app and is fully customizable via mail preferences. Very nice integration, very unintrusive.

The original and still the best! You can grab the latest betas (including one that works with 10.6.2) by following the developer's twit: https://twitter.com/BronsonBeta

Since Mail.appetizer has not been updated for Snow Leopard yet, I wrote my own plugin called Herald that has similar functionality. You can get it here:

I was having problems with Mail freezing at launch with Mail.appetizer installed. There's apparentely a conflict with Mail-Act-On. I can only use one or the other...
