Auto change iChat status messages.

Overview

iModz allows you to automatically change iChat's status messages. It features a great set of status possibilities from iTunes' current track information to a list of messages that switch! New version is much better, stability increased and even more easy to use!

What's new in iModz

Version 1.5:
  • The "dead app" bug (which would cause iModz to open target applications while running) is solved!
  • New built-in Help file
  • Unlimited list of messages that switch
  • Less Applescript, more Cocoa. What does that mean? Faster and more secure
  • Some codes were rewritten for efficiency
  • Automaticaly disables if target app is not running anymore
  • UpTime command shows Mac's uptime in Status
  • New website too! [ http://imodz.sf.net ]

The simplicity of this program is great, making it appealing to beginning users that don't want to take more time to configure iChatStatus. It doesn't have as many features as iChatStatus, but in this case that is just fine. I did come across a bug where I can't get the "iModz" text to disappear from the end of the iChat status line when selecting Safari as the feed option.

great it would be better to show a custom message + the pre-programmed message source (ex: "in bed"+ time) also why don't you separate date , time, date & time) and choose the format in the preference? ec MON 12th MAY (short day) or 2:41 (whitout seconds)

The power of iModz is in its simplicity. With just a few clicks you'll be able to customize iChat status messages. Two thumbs up for the developer!!

Very nicely done. Simple little app that does some cool things. If you use iChat you should give this one a try. The developer seems very responsive and is quick to fix any bugs too. Awesome!

Ignore my comment below. I forgot that this is an iTunes limitation and has nothing to do with iModz. Information about the currently-playing *shared* track isn't available via AppleScript, a serious iTunes shortcoming that I hope Apple addresses in the next version of iTunes.

Yeah I got to the same conclusion after I read the iTunes Applescript documentation. I guess iChatStatus handles this in some other way. But since I'm beginning to program now I'm gonna keep with AppleScript. Thanx for the feedback.

Looks like a good first app! Nicely done. The only problem I've noticed in my admittedly limited testing is that iModz won't update the iChat status when using iTunes 4.0 to listen to shared playlists on a local network. I don't know if this problem has to do with 4.0-vs-4.0.1 or because I was listening to music via shared playlists. I believe iChatStatus handles this correctly. Just thought I'd let you know!
