Repair Disk Utility's Permissions3.0

18 January 2004

Fix Disk Utility's own permissions.

Overview

Repair Disk Utility's Permissions solves an unusual problem: One of the more ironic permissions issues in OS X Jaguar is when the permissions of the Disk Utility application itself become corrupted. This can prevent you from being able to use Disk Utility's "Repair Permissions" tab to repair the permissions on your disk, including those of the Disk Utility application itself.

What's new in Repair Disk Utility's Permissions

Version 3.0:
  • Rewritten as a Cocoa (AppleScript Studio) application with a cleaner interface.
  • Added a workaround for an AppleScript bug that could prevent a user whose password is blank from successfully executing the "do shell script" repair procedure.

I down loaded and installed RDU Permissions. Selected Repair Permissions, received message that they were repaired. Then run OSX 10.06 Utility Repair Permissions. I restarted the computer(IMac 500mhz 512mb ram)using TechTool Pro 3.05 system 9.01, tried to defrag the HD. It defraged the some file and about 1500 spaced then stopped, leaving 2623 open spaces fragmented. How do I get my HD back to normal again??

Totakeke: And how do you propose to set the "SetUID" bit for Disk Utility's Mach-O executable from within the Finder? Do me a favor and read the information on http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fdup/fdup.html before you go jumping to conclusions!

This is completely useless. You can just use "Get Info" and edit the permissions there. What a waste.

"using TechTool Pro 3.05 system 9.01, tried to defrag the HD" You 'cannot' use TT Pro "3.05"......... Update to version 3.09 for better compatibility with Mac OSX 10.2 and higher! 3.07 is the minimum version for use with Jaguar.
