FindFilesX is a must-have for AppleScript/Automator developers who need to find lots of files very quickly. We use it in an office setting to find graphic design proofs and compose logo layouts. We search through literally thousands of files and the search results come back in about a second. Spotlight has nothing on this.

So many options to search for: file names, file types, creator code, size, creation/modification dates, label, etc. FindFilesX is versatile, powerful and best of all, it is fast.

Like I said, FindFilesX is for AppleScript/Automator developers. It doesn't have a front end UI because that is not needed for scripting. Marc, if you would have read the product description you would have known what to do with this program. This isn't a Sherlock replacement, it's a tool for serious developers.

This is an awesome product! If you are looking for an application that lets you search for files in your AppleScript software (even invisible files) at lightning fast speed you should try and buy this tool! The developer is also extremely responsive, fixes bugs almost as fast as the app searches ;) and is pleasant to deal with! Sooo recommended for AppleScript devs (only)...!

(Hmm...actually, I'm on planet Earth. Hello, fellow Earthling. : )

I'm sorry you were unable to locate the documentation. I had thought that placing the ReadMe file in a folder named "Documentation" right next to the FindFilesX application would make it easy enough for anyone to find. Do you have suggestions as to how I could make the ReadMe file even easier to find?

I am also sorry that you were unable to see menus and windows without sending FindFilesX commands from an AppleScript script - although I am sure when you started FindFilesX you must have seen the About dialog box which states:

"FindFilesX enables AppleScript developers to gather lists of files...etc."

Were you to have found the ReadMe file in the "Documentation" folder on the disk image, one of the first things you would have read would have been:

"Calling FindFilesX From Within Scripts

You use FindFilesX by sending it commands in an AppleScript script or application. Since FindFilesX is a scriptable application, you must enclose all FindFilesX commands in a tell block, like so:

Example:

tell application "FindFilesX"
-- commands go here
end tell"

I am unsure how any of this would lead someone to believe that they would somehow be able to use FindFilesX outside of an AppleScript. FindFilesX has been out for a couple year now, and I have gotten no such complaints to date. I guess there's a first time for everything! = )

If you have concrete suggestions as to how I might make this more clear, please do let me know, as I am always interested in improving the user experience of my software.

I am disapponted you found it necessary to give FindFilesX a bad rating without understanding how the application works.

I actually did (literally) L.O.L. When asked, I was unable to explain to my semi-computer iliterate acquaintance what the souurce of the hilarity was. I was speechless but chuckled on. I finally quipped that I was laughing because I could not hunch a guess as to what planet this particulaer software developer resided on - as he has seemingly created an application which is quasi-faceless, or at least without discoverable menus or windows, AND without documentation! Perhaps the joke is on me as I have simply failed to discover what needs to be discovered. Where is my (cyber) Tansing Norgay to guide me up and over this (cyber) Everest?
