Overview

View your OmniOutliner documents on your iPod! Download this disk image file for two different scripts to either export outlines so that they show up in the iPod's Contacts menu, or in the Notes menu for newer iPods.

What's new in OmniOutliner Export to iPod

Version 1.0.1 fixes the following:
  • Fixes an issue where we'd fail to find a connected iPod, insisting that no iPods were plugged in.
  • Export as note for new iPods includes the necessary tags to tell it we're UTF8, so international text is displayed.
  • Export as contact for older iPods will unmangle its Unicode text for proper display, but only if you have python installed (i.e. running OS X 10.2 with the BSD package). If you don't have python, the script will still work, but non-ASCII text will show up as gibberish on the iPod (as in the last release).

This is good but has issues. For instance, I have an .ooutline file of movies that I need to buy and rent. One column has a "Buy" header and the other has "Rent". Beneath each is a list of files appropriate to the header. When I export this to the iPod, the headers are lost, and I'm presented with a mess of movie titles. This kind of thing happens with several of my outlines, so I am disappointed. However, the software is very easy to use and is free, so it's definitely useful.

Tip to all: Don't have your iPod share a name with a mounted drive.

Doh. This update didn't fix my "Either no iPods are plugged in or your iPod doesn't have a “Notes” folder" error.
