For everyone who wants to listen to TFMX songs on the PowerPC based Mac... This player is excellent. Unfortunately the Web-site disappeared, however, I found the v 0.4.4 here: -Scroll to the bottom, click "Fading Twilight - Excerpt twelve" Click UTILS -> MAC -> OSX -> COCOMODX.DMG -You better download it now, it took me a **VERY** long time to find it, and there might only be this copy available. Note: There are some Turrican 2 TFMX-files that are not playable, but it works with the TFMX files found here:

I found out why I had problems getting CocoModX to play my songs. I had an old playlist, the files had moved to a different path (I don't remember that I did that, but I probably did), so whenever I dragged a file onto the playlist, it thought that I already had that file in the library, and the library one was picked. Now... Since the files had moved, it could not find the files, so if you get a big red X in the left side, trash you playlist, and create a new one. Also try turning off automatic switch, and set the player to for instance MikMod. After I did all this, it started playing. =) The app works great, however, I still have to figure out how to get the TFMX playing.

Unfortunately it seems I can't get it to play. I used CocoModX for a while, but when I upgraded to this version, it seems it won't play any of my MOD files anymore. It just goes "quack" each time I try playing a file... :/ -I believe this is a glitch in the release. I'm using Mac OS 10.3.9 btw. I'm looking forward to playing TFMX files!!! =)

CocoModX is a very solid piece of software, playing a uncommon audio format on the Mac. I'm an old-school scener, and I'll tell you it's not as compatible as even ModPlug Player or WinAmp (which uses the same library for module playback). It's not perfect with it comes to playback, but it can handle large playlists (I have one featuring 2100+ songs) without a hitch, and no slow down. That's a real feat on a 500Mhz G3. On the other hand, the sidebar hidden status cannot be toggled, and though multiple playlists are nice, the preference should be available. It uses a nice 10.3-centric interface, offering an iChat status setting feature as well as choice of playback engines, FMOD or MikMod. Mixing is reminiscent of ScreamTracker III with regards to fidelity - mods have never sounded better on the Macintosh. This player leaves PlayerPro in the dust. If you're using PP for mods switch now - I've only found one of my own mods (which is 40MB in size) which isn't rendered prefectly. Overall this is a great package, even though it's a touch hard on the CPU. Back in the day I could play a 24 channel XM on my 486/66 without so much as a hitch (provided I had disabled what is called "High Quality" in CocoModX). If you're looking for a good module player, the price can't be beat. With so little competition, this is a hard program to argue about. Good job! Optimize it and you'll have a serious contender for the MacScene!

fyi to anonymous: this is a music module player, not a general audio decoder. i wouldn't look for FLAC and Shorten support from this kind of app, since they aren't module formats, but rather encoding algorithms.

Well, it does what it says... very good quality, reverb options are welcome... but it needs some really major interface changes. The font used for track display is so small OS X doesn't antialias it, even at the lowest setting possible, and the alternating row colors in the playlist are white and violent electric blue, and apparently these colors slow down window resizing to an absolute and total crawl, worse than resizing a Finder window in list view in OS X 10.0.0! Also, sheet windows for adding directories, etc., open from the controller, even if the controller isn't open yet -- these probably shouldn't be sheets, but rather just modal dialogs, as they apply to the entire application.
