This is one of my most used utilities. It makes viewing, copying and editing contact info so quick, that it more than pays for itself. Never in your face but always there when you need it. Way easier and faster than the Address Book widget or Spotlight and more flexible too. This is one app I wouldn't be without. Updates when needed have been free. Buy this and you won't regret it.

You know that the Address Book Dashboard widget does pretty much the same thing for absolutely free?

I LOVE this little app, it's indispensable for me. I use it dozens of times over the day w/o thinking about it. Wonderful way to have all my addresses under my fingertips. BuddyPop has never left me alone in all these years, rock-steady. Thanks for great little software!

Very nice program. Lightweight presentation of your address book information. Need to check your address book plugins if any difficulties. Developer is very responsive.

Just a warning -- I've been using BuddyPop (registered user) for years, then upgraded my G4 Quicksilver to 10.5.2 and BuddyPop no longer works. The Apple Internal Modem does not dial (there's a discussion thread about the issue at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6935046). I know the modem is OK because other comms programmes like ZTerm operate normally. So it is a software issue -- either with 10.5.2 or BuddyPop (or both). I've emailed the developer twice over the last 3 weeks but have not received any response. So can't confirm that BuddyPop is still supported.

I downloaded this little app yesterday, and have used it fairly extensively for the past 24 hours. This is my first time using an address-book helper, so I can't compare it to any other program -- only on its own merits. First, let me say that this is the way Apple's Address Book should operate natively. Since it doesn't, programs like BuddyPop will always find a place on the Mac's of people who want address book info close at hand without having to have the app open all the time. BuddyPop's default hot key wouldn't work for me, so I changed it to control-space, and that seems to be the ticket. Use that hot key, and a little window appears, awaiting your keystrokes. Type in SMITH, hit return, and you get the info for the first Smith in your address book (you can, by the way, define which fields BuddyPop should display). And therein lies BuddyPop's one real flaw. If I type in SMITH, and I've got 17 of them in my address book, I don't want to have to keep hitting the right arrow key in order to cycle through them. What I want instead is a list of all the Smiths so that I can click on the one I want. That's infinitely faster and more efficient. In my mind, this flaw limits BuddyPop's use for businesses. Say, for example, you want to find contact info for one of your doo-dad suppliers, but can't remember the company name. You could key in SUPPLIER, but you might end up having to cycle through a hundred of them, if you've got that many in your address book, which many businesses will. This is less of an issue for personal use (where we don't generally use search criteria that applies to a hundred address book entries), although it still exists somewhat. All in all, I love the way BuddyPop brings my address book info close at hand. My rating indicates how it performs for me, and not how it might perform for a business, which I discussed previously. Obviously, if I used it for my business, I'd rate it considerably lower. But as it stands, it well deserves the high rating I gave it.

It's a good program but TapDex (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16758) also does the exact same thing (even more effective I might add) at the price of $ 0.00 !! You might want to check it out.

While I use and like BuddyPop (see review below), if you want a freebee that will give you equally quick access to your Address Book info, I recommend ABMenu. Lives in the menubar, very simple, very fast. Just missing a few bells and whistles that BuddyPop has...

Really easy to use, really effective. Use it all the time. My only request would be a list of results option, instead of having to use the arrow keys to search blindly through the results.

Abolutely fabulous. I wonder how I ever worked without it. I need to call tons of people every day and this helps me out so much. If you have to deal with a lot of contacts, this tool is definitely for you. Give it a spin, you won't be disappointed! Plus, it's very reasonably priced.

This is a fantastic utility, especially when combined with Quicksilver. One additional feature I'd really like to see added would be support for the Third Party Call Control interface provided by Vonage. Since it merely uses a simple HTTP GET or POST function in order to work, it should be rather trivial for the developer to add it. Vonage's TCPP website even includes code samples for Java and PHP to demonstrate exactly how easy it is to implement. Full API info is available at https://secure.click2callu.com

I am very happy with BuddyPop 2.0.2. It is small, convenient, friendly, efficient, practical... In one word: it has all qualities :-) This being said, I agree with Alexmathew, when he said (11/12/2003) “Cant we (I) have a list of the matches - instead of blindly going back and forth with the arrow keys?“ This is the only additional feature I’d really appreciate. Thank you.

GREAT program, so slick and everything :-) - I actually use it in combination with quicksilver, because I agree that looking up addressbook entries with this is much easier and enjoyable than with quicksilver (

This is a great little program and until very recently it was my primary means of accessing the addressbook. Glad to see the developer has improved it. However... I have replaced this now with the current beta of QuickSilver which is more of a generic finder on my system, works in the same manner (you can even have the floating bezel layer) and will get your addressbook stuff, iTunes, files and apps as launcher. If you like this program you might want to try it.

I like this app - but a couple of features would be nice: 1. Access from Menu Bar option. 2. Dynamic listing of matches - I know it can get very crowded but when you just know the first few letters - seeing the matching names would jog the memory. 3. Recently used or preferred numbers listed in Menu or drop down.

Hello. Any behavior that you do not find normal, even if this is not a bug should be reported to me, my goal is to make BuddyPop better and better in simplicity and efficiency. EvanZ138, please drop me a mail about your problem :-)

It's an excellent program, however in my case it only works until I restart my computer (iMac FP 700), then the key combo doesn't work, even though it is in the login items. I try to open it again from the hard drive, and still nothing. Is this common?
