This app. has the same limitation as Delicious Library and every similar one I've seen. It may be fine for e–books but can't handle all the incredibly large number of books downloadable in PDF format from such sources as Google Books and Internet Archive. I doubt I'm the only person in the world who has a lot of these accumulated on my h. d. and urgently needs help in riding herd on them?

Not as pretty as Delicious Library but does the job and seems easier to enter your own info with plenty of options. These are 3 different programs one for books, audio and videos. You get a free scanner if you have it shipped instead of download. I have used it for years and it has never failed me or my family.

I use Readeware VW version which sorts movies. I have the server version on my linux box and run readerwaewv on my Mac's PC and linux no problems. I like the simplisty of readerware and the spider/scrapping is great for the information. I wrote on my powerbook and convertion program that takes an export CSV file from readerware and cleans up the data nad populates a SQL database (mysql). I then designed a web interface to display the data. Take look at the info page http://www.presswise.net/readerware.html its free and easy to use. You will find links to a forum on readerware, plus you could go to readerwares own forum they could help you install. To view online movie data exported from readerware: http://www.presswise.net/cgi-bin/dvd/displaymovie.cgi

I've been using ReaderWare for a couple of years now and really like it. I originally used it under Windows XP, and then migrated to the Mac version when I switched over to the Mac for all of my personal computing needs. The Mac version has all the features of the PC version; both version have a somewhat odd-feeling interface, probably due to its Java roots. It works great for me, though, and the developer provides good Mac support! One especially nice feature is the ability (with the PalmOS-enabled version) to upload your database to your PalmOS-based PDA! I find this very useful, as it saves me from buying books I already own (something I've been know to do from time to time...).

After two 'successful' attempts to install in Panther, still cannot get the program to launch. No splash screen, no menus -- nothing. Processviewer and dock indicate Readerware is running -- but no other visible signs that it is. Looks like it COULD be a great program -- but untilo it can actually see something to review -- just be aware that this has happened after installing the RW package.

Counterintuitive compared to Library, which I use. In the time needed just to get past the required posting of the Help Readme, figuring out which icon to pick to add a book, and become confused by the Windows-install-like window in Readerware, I had already viewed my Library booklist, typed in the ISPN, received the listing from Amazon, entered the gendre, and quit Library.

Great to see this program finally listed on Macupdate! Readerware has set the standard for book cataloging software, and it is still the best choice for book collectors who need a powerful yet easy-to-use database solution. The smartest feature of course is that you can type an ISBN number (or scan it with a barcode scanner) and let Readerware look it up on internet sites like Amazon or the Library of Congress. It will automatically add the appropriate entries to the database, complete with a cover image and the current reselling value of the book. A real time-saver. - There are also Readerware versions that let you catalog DVDs and CDs in case you believe that your J-Lo movies and Britney Spears albums are worth being entered into a database :) The program clearly shows that it's a work of love and labor. The author is very responsive to feature requests and inquiries, and the frequent updates and bug-fixes prove his exceptional commitment. Readerware is not a bargain, but it's worth the $40 - you will get a solid and powerful program and very good support. The only drawback that you will have to get used to is the fact that this is a cross-platform Java program. Like all Java apps, it feels kinda clumsy and sluggish on older machines. The UI shows that the author was primarily concerned with Windows interface guidelines and only added some Aqua eye candy to the ported version. But while there is still room for improvement, I'm more than glad that RW has made it to the Mac, and I'm looking forward to the next revisions.
