As of July 2012, Thunderbird has transitioned to a new governance model, with new features being developed by the broader free software and open source community, and security fixes and improvements handled by Mozilla.
Thunderbird is a free, open-source, cross-platform e-mail and news (NNTP) client developed by the Mozilla Foundation. The project strategy is modeled after Mozilla Firefox, a project aimed at creating a Web browser.

- Creating a tag in General Settings with a number as the tag name did not work
- Quick Filter button selections did not persist after restart
- Collapsing and expanding message list headers sometimes caused header to scroll out of view
- Single message with no children inside a parent thread sometimes displayed incorrectly as a thread with a duplicate of itself as its child
- "Get selected messages" menu items did not work
- "Download and Sync Messages" dialog was too short when using Russian locale, obscuring OK button
- After changing password on an IMAP account, the account could become locked due to too many failed login attempts
- Retrieving multiline POP3 message from server failed if message chunk ended in newline instead of carriage return and newline
- IMAP, POP3, and SMTP Exchange autoconfiguration did not support encryption configuration
- Non-empty address book search bar interfered with displaying/editing contacts
- Deleting attendees from "Invite Attendees" view removed attendees from view, but not from invite
- Splitter arrow between task list and task description did not behave as expected
- Performance improvements and code cleanup

Using a Mac, one on Catalina, the other on System 14 on an M1 chip. Can't get either one to work. Whan I enter my *correct* user ID and password to tell it to use iCloud, it comes back saying that my credentials aren't accepted. One commenter on another forum said to erase the account and restart TB. How does one erase an account? Another commented that one should delect ~/.thunderbird. There isn't one on either of my machines. I really want to replace Mail. Won't you please help?

Mozilla has tried to create a new problem for its users. The compose window for sending an email now has a fixed position on the screen. This window can no longer be moved around the screen. It is simply impossible to disable this feature. Now I am really thinking about finding an alternative to Mozilla Thunderbird, because this "innovation" is a very significant problem.

Recent versions (90.0+) are highly unstable - a few weeks back it took me several days to rebuild my email library (150k emails [no attachments] spanning 20 years of work); new install, complete rebuild, then pow, same problem - crashes on start - start all over again. have been long time user, unwilling to use Apple Mail and looking now for alternatives to TB)

I switched to Thunderbird many years ago after Apple Mail stopped working for me on my email account. I really like it, but miss the functionality of a "send later" plug-in for email messages. I hope a developer can update that in the future as it's quite useful!

Habe mich dagegen entschieden, da man die Konten und Ordner nicht aus der Vorgängerversion transferieren kann. Sie alle neu zu erstellen, ist mir zu viel Arbeit.
Insofern bin ich sehr enttäuscht über dieses no go.

Glad to see TB back in development. it could use some minor tweaks, though. The text in the main window is much too small, it would be nice to see it adjustable for farsighted folks. And the process for adding calendars is still cumbersome, and even broken. It isn't easy to add iCloud calendars or even Google Calendars (that option is completely gone). Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
And I am completely amazed at all of the people complaining about the update to v78. Did none of you even bother to read the release notes? Might help. Especially those who are complaining about broken addons.

I like Thunderbird especially v68.x due to all extensions and internal features.. but v78, if you don't use PGP (who really use PGP..?), seems to be for me at least a kind of "kickback" : a lot of features aren't no more available and customizing TH78 is more restricted. Furthermore still not possible to change the font size of messages list, all Retina Macusers know what I mean. It's a pity that's not implemented again; old third party extension doesn't work since a long time. Updating TH68 database to TH78 seems also not easy.. Finally looking for another Mac email solution in the near future. But not for Apple's email client.
