Carnoy is an easy-to-use image analysis program developed to help scientists carry out measurements on digital images, especially on micrographs obtained from light or electron microscopes. Carnoy employs a unique one-click calibration option that enables users to click on a scale bar, enter its length, and have measurements calculated on micrographs accordingly. For micrographs that do not have a scale bar (e.g. from a light microscope), you can specify calibration values for every magnification you use. After this calibration, you can add a scale bar to those LM pictures.
Carnoy measures the length, perimeter and surface area of regular and irregular objects. It can also do automated particle analysis -- counting and measuring. The software supports BMP, PICT, Photoshop, JPEG, GIF, PNG, SGI, TGA, TIFF, PDF and QuickTime image files, and can also convert between the different file types. The measurements themselves can be annotated, then exported to a tab-delimited file for further analysis. Carnoy has been developed for a variety of scientific fields, including taxonomy, morphology, ecology, physiology, molecular cell biology, engineering, agricultural sciences, paleontology, archaeology, and more. Carnoy has a clean and easy-to-use interface, so you?ll be productive within minutes.

Version 2.1 adds the following:
- [Bug] Clicking on a selected tool no longer deselects it (the tool buttons are "sticky").
- [Imp] One Click calibration can now be done at every zoom level.
- [Imp] Toolbar resizing now works properly.
- [Imp] The OCC dialog is slightly redesigned.
- [Imp] Added the possibility to set the scale bar's thickness.
- [New] An unlimited number of magnifications can be defined in the preferences.
- [New] The default size, color and position of the scale bar can be defined in the preferences.
- [New] The Set scale command is now called Calibrate, which is more intuitive for new users. There is a new calibration dialog that let's the user choose between manual calibration or a list of predefined magnifications.
- [New] Calibrated images get a [Calibrated] flag in their title bar. When trying to measure on non-calibrated images, Carnoy will prompt the user to calibrate the image.
- [New] There is a new Pen tool to draw irregular regions and measure their area and perimeter.
- [New] The interface is redesigned to be more intuitive, following the advice of interface specialists at Interfacemafia.org. Some icons are redesigned or moved to a more appropriate location.
