FTPeel is an easy-to-use FTP client with extra features like AppleScriptability and drag 'n drop file mirroring to make the same files appear on your server as on your local computer.
What's New
Version 1.1.4:
  • Fixed a bug where the application would unhide itself if it was hidden, a new transfer was added, and the download window was set to show itself.
  • Fixed an uncaught "selector not recognized" exception when attempting to change the search criteria.
  • Fixed an uncaught "index beyond bounds" exception when attempting to click just below the last directory entry in a column within column view.
  • Fixed an uncaught "can't load path in path" exception, and problems logging in, when the initial path was relative.
  • Fixed a problem affecting the ability to log into FTP-SSL servers that run the WS_FTP server software.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing FTP-SSL directory listings & transfers to fail if the server's certificate chain was unknown or invalid or had expired certificates.
  • Fixed a bug that was sometimes causing FTP-SSL connections to stall mysteriously.
  • Fixed a bug that was sometimes causing FTP-SSL data transfers to fail randomly.
  • Fixed a bug that was preventing FTPeel from starting a drag-and-drop download if the file was dropped into Cocoatech's Path Finder application.
  • Fixed a bug where type-ahead selection would fail after changing directories or opening a new window while in list view.
  • Improvements:
    • Multi-file and directory delete operations now occur in another thread, so the UI will no longer hang when deleting a directory on a slow server.
    • Added better error handling code.
    • FTPeel now preserves file permissions on a file when a file is downloaded. This also means customized file permissions are no longer lost when using the external editor feature over SFTP.
  • New features:
    • Added compatibility with FTP-SSL servers that do not support encrypted data transfer (e.g. PureFTPD).
  • Version 1.1.4:
    • Fixed a bug where the application would unhide itself if it was hidden, a new transfer was added, and the download window was set to show itself.
    • Fixed an uncaught "selector not recognized" exception when attempting to change the search criteria.
    • Fixed an uncaught "index beyond bounds" exception when attempting to click just below the last directory entry in a column more...

Needed an FTP app. Liked FTPeel's magic mirror. Bought a license. Used it. Got frustrated with it. Got very frustrated with it. Tried again. And again. Got even more frustrated. Downloaded Transmit. Got to work right away. Realized I wasted $19 on FreshlySqueezedCrapware. Sent FTPeel packing.

Seems like a nice client although I'm unable to list directory contents on my friends Windows (Van Dyke VShell) based sftp server, which kinda makes it useless for me, Cyberduck handles this fine.

Imagine updating a dozen files located in multiple directories on more than one server, then dragging the files to an icon on your dock and walking away as each file is uploaded to it's proper place. No need to imagine, if FTPeel is in your dock. Create a new file in a new directory, FTPeel creates the remote directory as it uploads. Quick updating of remote files with BBEdit (and other choices) makes this my choice for FTP needs. Takes about 3 minutes to learn.

Transmit? Rbrowser? Bah. This thing runs circles around them. This is my favorite FTP client and I wouldn't give it up for the world!

    Fetch? Puh-lease. You're reaching.

Trashed it. Prefer the effort put into Transmit's interface design. Have the list of files squeezed right up against the left edge with no margin is simply bad design, interface or otherwise.

Warning: Apparently this software copies each file it wants to transfer into your RAM. This means if you want to transfer two 700MB CD images like I just tried it will use 1,4 GB of your RAM!!!! You can confirm this by running Activity Monitor (or top) for example. In other words: It's completly unusable at the moment.

Well the amount of RAM that FTPeel uses has been reduced with version 1.1.3 but there still seems to be something wrong: If I transfer a 640 MB CD image FTPeel will use 125 MB of physical memory and 690 MB of virtual memory. With two such images it uses 260 MB of physical memory and 815 MB of virtual memory. I'm running 10.3.3 with 512 MB RAM. Screenshots at http://www.openmac.de/images/one-640mb-image.gif and http://www.openmac.de/images/two-640mb-images.gif The images will stay there for some time.
