ClassicDraw XT2.2

19 June 2003

Fixes Classic mode QuarkXPress bugs.

Overview

ClassicDraw XT makes Quark's non-Mac OS X native applications usable with the Classic environment by fixing a number of annoying redraw bugs in XPress. The two fixed bugs include:
  • The first version of ClassicDraw XT fixed a problem with XPress 3.3x and XPress 4.x which caused the document not to be redrawn when you switched from another application into XPress. This meant that every time you switched to another application to read you email or copy a file then the document view got corrupted. While Quark have fixed this problem in XPress 5.0, ClassicDraw XT made older versions of XPress usable in MacOS X.
  • The introduction of Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) introduced a new problem with all versions of XPress products up to and including XPress 5.0 and CopyDesk 2. If a palette partially overlaps a document window then scrolling the document would cause certain portions of the document to fail to redraw. ClassicDraw XT version 2.1 has been released for all XPress products to fix this new redraw bug.

Version 2.2 fixes a problem where the splash screen would not go away.

MUCH better than the FAT version released previously, in Jaguar dock movements would cause redraws in Quark on every frame of movement which was very annoying. Also screen redraw ended up striped until you forced i (opt-apple-period). Everything seems to be 100% in order now, There's the addition of a small donationware window for the first 3 launches but I think these developers deserve every penny/cent, I'll be donating - essential Xtension for sure - good work guys!!!

i got this because, after upgrading to x, i wanted to use quark 4.1 in classic. only trouble is, the screen doesn't redraw properly when you scroll around. this xtension is easy to install and fixes the problem. redrawing is a little slower than it would be if i was to reboot in 9, but it defnitely works.

So far - wonderful. Its a joy (well - perhaps not a joy) to be able to use QXP in Mac OS X. I tried an earlier version of this XT which didn't really help very much but now they've really cracked it. Excellent XT - I'll happily keep with QXP 4 now until I get hardware that can handle ID.

I have a G4 tower, dual 1.25 GHz processors with OS X 10.2.8 here at work, and this plugin doesn't work. It only allows me to open one document at a time (if I open others, they stay in the background and I can't select them). The redraw function doesn't work either...I have to hit my F7 button to show/hide guides. However, it does work well on my G4 15 inch PowerBook at home, OS X 10.2.8, 1GHz memory. Go figure!
