What's New
Version 10.3.3.111:

Important Notes before updating:

  • This version of Pro Tools does not yet support Interplay, so Interplay users should not install Pro Tools 10.3.3 at this time.
  • Please be sure to review the Read Me file before updating to 10.3.3 for known issues that could impact your workflow.
  • Note that the Avid Virtual Instruments installer was updated to 10.3 on Mac to add support for Gatekeeper in Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). The Avid Virtual Instruments installer on Windows remains at v10.0.
Improvements:
  • Improvements have been made to reduce the occurrence of -9171 and -9129 errors on HDX, HD Native and HD Native Thunderbolt systems (PTSW-170587)
  • When importing QuickTime files, associated audio now correctly follows interleaved format preference. (PTSW-169486, PTSW- 167356)
  • When relinking interleaved multichannel files (LCR, Quad, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0 or 7.1), Center and Right channels are no longer inadvertently swapped. (PTSW-175283)
  • Relinking more than a few hundred MXF files no longer causes Pro Tools to quit unexpectedly. (PTSW-175347)
  • When using EUCON control surfaces, Pro Tools no longer quits unexpectedly after performing certain operations (PTSW-173919)
  • Selecting the Pan window on MC Control using the Attention/Selected track no longer causes Pro Tools to quit unexpectedly (PTSW-174525)
  • X-axis panning of certain plug-in surround channels from a D-Control is no longer inverted (PTSW-173286, PTSW-172836, PTSW-173938)
  • This issue affected Maggot Spanner, Dolby ATMOS, and New Audio Technology Spatial Audio Designer. Plug-Ins may require an up- date to take advantage of this fix.
  • D-Control Custom Fader plug-in maps no longer need to be recalled after every Channel Select operation. (PTSW-158750)
  • The "Import as Offline Satellite Media" option is now available in Pro Tools HD when running on systems without HD hardware. (PTSW-171738, PTSW-173186)
  • Plug-Ins with 4096 or more samples of latency now preview correctly in AudioSuite. Previously, errors -7104 or -7450 would occur. (PTSW-173329)
  • Auditioning custom crossfade shapes in the Fade dialog now produces correct audio. (PTSW-173669) When using VenueLink with Pro Tools, snapshot recall is now instantaneous. (PTSW-167189)
  • To improve performance, the Disk Cache function now caches only the audio files that will be heard during playback. Audio that is muted or that is not on an active playlist will not be cached.

This update does not show up when I click "check for update" from Protools 10.3.2, and it doesn't appear on their site, AFAIK.

I used to use Pro Tools until I mastered Audacity, which is free.

Audacity is OK, but not on the same level as PT.

So you are giving Pro Tools three starts because it's not free?

It should be noted that the $299.00 price listed above is for an upgrade from PT 9. For people like me who had PT 7 MP, it's $499.00! The upgrade prices from 7 to something that runs in Lion was more than I paid for ProTools M Powered to start with! I like PT, but I think I'll stick with Cubase.

The first time I've heard about version ten was because of the new Souncloud feature, which is probably the most stupid and useless idea they ever had...
Except for that, it's a must have (I won't compare it to Logic, Cubase or else, it basically depends on your habits, but I'm keen to think that for audio editing, nobody beats ProTools.
Apparently, someone at Avid has just recalled Digidesign once created a page here. ;-D
I won't make a complete review, I'm a faitfhful user (think: the first version I've used was 4.3, if I recall well and it fitted on a floppy!!!), so it's hard to say something bad about ProTools as it has got better and better through the years. The only boring thing I see, at my level, is the iLok key: luckily, some plugin developper are getting rid of it, and you can also make a good job with the provided plugins (which was not the case a few years ago).
Still being a version 7/8 user, I'm stuck to my Mbox2 interface, but now with this version, you should be able to use any one, which is a huge revolution.

I guess PT version 8 is not worth writing about?

I wish they actually wrote abou the new features instead of giving us useless advertising copy in the "Whats New" .

"it's the most flexible Pro Tools software ever!"
Does that mean it has taken gymnastics?

"a revolutionary new way to work with Pro Tools®"
Did they change the user interface and work flow?

"more systems and creative options"
What are they? What is a creative option? "I need more orange?"

"all-new music creation tools"
Such as...?

What a bunch of fluff.

Digidesign, please keep the copywriters away from technical specifications please.

Great ! does this mean I'll be able to rcord more than three tracks and use more than two plug-ins before it crashes ?. I doubt it.

Did they finally fix the "have to be admin to run it"-madness? That is THE gripe I have with version 6.x of this program.

Is that for real?
I know Pro-tools is THE daddy, but requires a G5? Would it not run on a G4 of any type?

ProTools web site lists the G4 as a supported machine, at least with the 002. See: http://www.digidesign.com/compato/osx/002/

I don't believe it's officially Panther compatible yet. Their download page only lists 10.2.7 - 10.2.8.
There are currently no troubleshooting comments. If you are experiencing a problem with this app, please post a comment.
