Overview

Strangelove is a ghostscript utility that converts Microsoft Word documents into PDF documents.

What's new in Strangelove

Version 1.0b2 adds the following:
  • Fixed readme typos
  • Added note about browsing to readme
  • Slightly updated icon
  • A little bit better at finding ghostscript and antiword (arbitrary guesses) - thanks, Alex and Jonas!
  • Made tool-not-found dialog text clearer

StrangeGlove itself seems to be a good idea - I never got to test it though because the extra files necessary to make it work (which you download from a seperate site) needs to be installed using the sud command via the Terminal. Unfortunately the instructions were not too clear so I didn't risk it). Once an installer is made I'll give it another go.

Simply does not not work on my OS X.3.8. Requests antiword when ghostscript is installed, and does not recognize antiword when I select it.... disappointing, it was still a good idea.

Does the job straightforwardly enough. Doesn't preserve complex formatting well, for example moves footnotes to end of file, compresses double line spacing. Probably an issue of underlying software, rather than Strangelove itself. Still, dancing bears eh!

Didn't seem to work well... kept on saying there was an anti-word error. Only recognizes .doc documents as 'word' documents. Too much other software and add-ons to install; still no functionality. MSWord has the option to print in PDF anyways... so what's the point? Cool logo though.

hello? the software is for those of us who don't want m$ software on our machines, but live in a world that insists on sending us word documents.

Beta 2 is much improved and actually works! Pretty cool to see it in action :) It still needs an installer of course, but at least it should come with the extra files that are needed even if they do have to be installed separately.

Still a work in progress. Only good for nerds at the moment. They need to create a proper package and installer. Did'nt work on my system. Don't bother downloading.

Well i have tried it and gave up on it. I followed the instructions and installed Ghostscript but Strangelove couldn't find it. The authors really need to get the complete package together so that this is as easy to use as the readme file suggests it should be. It's a good idea but poorly implemented.
