Opennap peer-to-peer client.

Overview

2get is an opennap client supporting basic opennap features such as multiple server connection, WinMX queueing, download resumption, and client-to-client direct browsing. 2get also features a single-window user interface with a convenient drawer that summarizes all current searches, network activity, and active transfers.

What's new in 2get

Version 1.9.7:
  • change: alternative naplist now removed because of too many unreachable servers
  • change: download with holding option key works as "retry automatically" mode
  • improvement: transfer view performance optimizations
  • improvement: pause download supported
  • improvement: user preference for removing unreachable servers
  • improvement: graphical statics in drawer
  • improvement: remember window splitter position for chat and browse view

I pushed my connection (ADSL) to the maximum and it still SUCKS. All the other P2P clients I tried returned something, some not much, some a lot, in matter of search results & downloads & uploads. This one is an absolute & sore LOSER.

2get has been a lifesaver for me. Xnap was slooooow, even on my 867 G4, and also buggy as hell. With 2get I am able to easily connect to private OpenNAP networks and share/download files. It works exactly the way it should. It has its quirks, and is still missing some things WinMX has, but it gets better each release.

According to my 3-years experience with P2P software, I can say that both Limewire and this program suck. XNap is the best I have tried so far, but it takes time to get used to plus you really have to share if you want your downloads to start. Acqlite is a good program I recommend for newbies.

looks like someone is always beating me to it, but mlmac is better. well, he didn't say why, but let me tell you why. searching gnutella, kazaa, eDonkey, bittorrent, soulseek, openft, and opennap all at once is certainly better than searching one network. lol... why do people stick with acq? it was excellent... but no more. mlmac is just over 300KB, the way P2P apps should be. small. neat. fast. real results that matter. mlmac is the way filesharing should be.

The TEMPORARY bad link error was a minor hassle in contrast to the fact that the writer of 2get is freely offering a great app, constantly improving it, and supporting both X and 9 equally.

Yes, I've had the same trouble with the last couple of versions. Normal "download" gives a corrupted file; command-"save target as" gives an html file which I cannot get StuffIt Expander to recognize, even by playing with the file name suffixes. What's with these guys? Can't they figure out how to serve a simple downloadable file? Cant' be rocket science!

Honetly the only real P2P that I have found that really works is mlMac. It is still in beta but its pretty sweet and definetly a great alternative to most of the other crap thats out there. Definetly worth looking at I give it a 5 star rating for being good in beta stages. The best way to describe it, at least in my uses of it, is its a lot like the beta builds of safari....

If you want a better and feature-packed Filesharing program, don't bother with this 2get program, i am having no luck getting it to search correctly. Instead try iSwipe www.hillmanminx.com/iswipe/ It works not only with OpenNap, but also Gnutella, Hotline, FastTrack, OpenFT, WWW, and iTunesNet. iSwipe will run on MacOS 8.6, 9.x, and OS X

I got completely fed up with the mediocre and extreme "Java-ness" of XNap and went so far as to fill my HD with lots of Fink-related nonsense only so I could use the UNIX-based application Lopster which is still considered "unstable". After being thrown around the wringer with Fink being the admirable attempt at good software that it is, I finally gave up. And tried this App. It's far from perfect, but the features all work for me, and it's the "best" OpenNap software for MacOS X. What a sad state of affairs. UI needs some work. And bug fixes (As some people seem unable to use basic features, could be user incompetence, but considering my experiences with the bugs it's more bugs than user-error). Solid release, and particularly impressive considering it's REALBasic. Shaddup fanboys. I don't care what it's programmed in so long as it works well.

Again, if 2Get isn't supposed to automatically download a list of servers, here is an idea. Make it access the server list on napigator.com and parse the servers into the Network window. It'll save us all a lot of time.

The only reason why the program doesnt work for most people is because they are not sharing files. Most servers refuse leechers, and if you only get acess to about 3 servers, this is your problem. Either you arent sharing or you need to share more, some have limits of, for example, a minimum of 1GB that you have to share.

This program is working just fine for me. I have no problems with the multiple windows though it would be nice if they remembered their positions. But I quible. iSwipe started out the same way and settled on a nice tabbed interface. The Fat Lady has taken the stage and started to sing her lungs out about the impending demise of Drumbeat. Thanks to the delveloper for persistance. Mac OS 9.2.2 on an iMac.

2get, should be called 4get, I have not had any success using this and I have tried it a few times when new updates come out. I guess it would work if I had a few days to let it find other users, but when other apps work faster and better why waste my time. Direct connect works best.

Fantastic client for MacOS 8.1-9, finds waaaaaay more files as Limewire. However, it's not fully bug free and you'll have to share files otherwise you'll find almost nothing (because lots of servers/people refuse leechers). Way to go!

Very good as long as it works, but after a while it quits... If it was more stable it would be one of the best file sharing apps for mac out there. It returns more search results than limewire, and it has a better interface too. The only thing I really dont like is the number of windows, and that the app opens up a new one for every little thing you do. Excellent app, you just need to work a bit on the stability

Getting better... but still needs improvement. It is trying to get an appearance like acquisitions since the last release... though the thing opens a new window for each "network" or "search" you click! ANNOYING! And by the way, switch to Cocoa cause carbon is dead! But if I see a more acquistion-e interface and some speed and other fixes.. this baby will rock!

Excellent! The control panel is a little confusing and there is no documentation; however, the results are phenomenal. When you start 2get, the control panel is tiny. I like it! Everything is 'off', so you must turn everything 'on' to make 2get work. Once you do, a search turned up hundreds of results [where L*m*w*r* produced zero]. Possibly the best p2p for the Mac!
