BolinOS is a modular publication and communication platform for Internet/Web development in order to enable simple management of complex portals. BolinOS is based on a data structure compatible with Sqeleton, Internet/Web operating system, and uses standard open-source software: PHP, Apache, mySQL. BolinOS was developed in order to offer a simple and efficient platform that could take in account the quality and diversity of today's multimedia. It is implemented and co-developed by Poinch.ch (www.poinch.ch - Swiss musical portal), the Radiology Department of Geneva's University Hospitals (www.radiologie.hcuge.ch), Med-IA (www.med-ia.ch - medical multimedia portal), with a major actor that has permitted the start of everything: Wild, first Swiss Web platform for the incubation of creators. Many functionalities already exist. For example, an integrated agenda, email portal, groups and forums managemnt systen create a basic applicative set of easily integrated and publishable online tools. There are also many more focused applications, such as multimedia albums, image collections, image manipulation applications or scientific poster making modules for online and paper publication. Many others are currently under development using the BolinOS framework.
Thumbs down! Once on the project's homepage I clicked "try it" only to discover a redirect to "hotscript.com" displaying as follow:
"Thank You for Rating BolinOS!
You have rated "BolinOS" as Excellent! .
We will review your vote shortly and include it in our rating database if approved."
Great way of working and thinking!
By the way, the best CMS out now is e-xoopport (http://www.e-xoopport.it), an Italian project based on e-xoops no longer developed (still active under a new name "runcms")
Looks promising. It installed fine on localhost. The problem is, I can't get it to diplay html. It reverts to ftp when I click a link. And the documentation is very poor, so trying to figure out if it's file permissions, or what, is relatively useless.
splendid program, the versatility of the tool is just incredible, and the text edit interface is even easier than word (the cut and paste capability is the best thing I've ever seen!)
this word-like webpage editing in v3.3.5 is fantastic! how come does safari does not work with it? feels so good to cut and paste from and to other applications, dreamweaver be gone!
great and versatile, this is really a complete cms but also a very well designed online application framework that needs a bigger developer community. I am part of it now.
very complete platform guys! I find very interesting the way the cms is build, clear and solid to rely on the server's file system, even my old win2000 server feels like Mac OS X now! The installer still lacks however some clarity, three for ease of use, but would be 5 if the install process was easier!
installed with no major problem, just followed the steps, on my tiBook. had more trouble on my provider using ftp (the ftp wrights thing is quite fuzzy) but works great now. fantastic this new image sequence browser (for radiologists at least)
I tried to modify a module from phpNuke to BolinOS (a list manager), works fine. I love the archiving functionalities! thanks to the bolinos men, still a little complex at first but on the good way, took me hours to figure how to turn the bandwidth optimizer on!
well, this php nuke comment is obviously by someone who doesn't want to believe what it sees... since when do you have cdrom exportation on phpnuke? complete image collection image browsing and editing? groupware and palm support? well seems a little biased. It is maybe a little complicated to install and the docs are definitely too scarce..
How would you rate BolinOS app?
