Dock-based kitchen timer.

Overview

Fob is a free dock-based kitchen timer for Mac OS X by Leaky Puppy Software. It allows a user to specify possibly multiple timers to count down for a specified interval. When an alarm runs out of time, Fob will make itself conspicuous.

(Fob is not an alarm clock or stopwatch, i.e., it will not count to a particular time, nor count up.)

The presence of presets is Fob's main gimmick for decreasing the effort required to start an alarm. To draw an analogy to Web browsers, they are a kind of time bookmark for commonly used alarms. For example, I may define a six minute preset to let tea steep. Thence, I need only choose "Tea" from my preset list, and I never need deal with a neglected lukewarm cup in my microwave again. Starting a preset alarm requires only one mouse click rather than many clicks and typing.

Fob thus appeals to the unspeakably lazy and undisciplined. Needless to say I will make several million dollars.

What's new in Fob

Version 1.0.4:
  • One may start alarms from a text description (e.g. "5 m" for 5 minutes).
  • Alarms may be set to repeat indefinitely.
  • Various small interface enhancements, especially in the dock menu.
  • Fixed a small non-critical bug.

I like FOB a LOT. Its easy to configure. Preset alarms make it a one click item once you set it up. You can have more than one alarm working at the same time with different sounds. The menubar indicator counts down the next alarm to go off. A very slick app.

I love Fob. I've tried several timers in the past, and I've settled on Fob as my one and only timer. I do have one tiny request for the developer. If you should update Fob, could you include a "Command-Q" in the File menu for quitting? I find keyboard commands so much easier than using the mouse or track when they are available. Other than this small suggestion, I am so pleased, and use Fob daily.

Still the best. I've been using this for over a year and decided to see if there was anything new (and universal) to put on my new computer. After searching, this is still the best timer app there is. - Big clock readable from across the room - hides in the background - small dock clock - Menubar display - Storage for commonly used timers - launches Applescripts (Growl Support!!! http://growl.info/documentation/applescript-support.php) - Pauses and resumes timer when you quit No the binary isn't Universal, but source is included so I'll stick with it.

Very useful app. Only wish there were an alternate icon color. The developer wouldn't know what it 's like to be a little girl forced to live in a world of pink .... but changing the icon seems complicated.

This has got to be the best implementation I've seen of such a simple concept. Despite the "feature bloat" of the app, all of the functionality appears well though out. Besides, any programmer with the foresight to include a pre-set for "Soda In Freezer" get bonus points in my book. (-; You really deserve to have a PayPal donation link on your page...

Good little tool, and easy to use. I'm finding that I'm using it all the time for a variety of reminders.

Tried to enter a time of 4 hours and 53 minutes for it to countdown. It changed it immediately to 4 hours and 03 minutes. A bug, perhaps?
