Check Off 5.0.2 has many bugs.
Although three bug reports were transmitted by e-mail, even if one week passes, no replies come.
You should consider Check Off purchase carefully.
I recommend ToDo.
ToDo is compatible with 10.7.

If you want a trial visit the dev's page. October 8th, I believe they posted a link to download a demo version of the app w/ a ten item limitation. Version 5, but not 5.0.1 as far as I know.

I have been using Check-Off for years, and am still using the last pre-shareware, freeware version (3.8). It is stable, a good combination of simplicity and utility, and aesthetically nice. The only draw I could find to the paid version -- and it does seem like a good feature -- is the fact it can be used on an iPod and synced to the computer. I upgraded the OS to 10.7.1 and Check-Off has finally started behaving erratically - as have some other apps.

Ahhhh.. the AppStore.. where developers now feel there's no place for demo versions or trial software and just want you to pay $9.99 without even a remote chance to see if A) the software runs on your system or B) it fulfills your needs.

The AppStore has done one great thing here.... stopped me for purchasing many software packages which I may have actually purchased.

To the developer... if you think the bulk of users out there will shell out $9.99 simply because your app is in the AppStore, you're kidding yourself. Offer a free demo or trial otherwise, take your software and place it where all software goes to die.

ooo.. a minus 1.. let me guess.. from the a developer for pointing out their unethical business practice???

Offer a demo or F-Off.

Though my language may be a bit different, my sentiments are not. I agree 100%... It's just too bad that everything will eventually go the way of the MAS.

But please listen, you developers out there: Offer some way for us to demo your stuff. Chances are you'll make more sales!

I agree totally. The Appstore is a major deterrent for me now. And Anon Bud presses exactly the right button. If I can try it, I will probably buy it, but I won't risk any hard-earned buying a potential pig in a poke.
Oh...the minus one issue. I used to have quite a few pluses until I questioned three developers as to why they no longer offered PPC archives of their oeuvre once they had moved onto Intel. Nothing hurtful, just a straightforward question.
My current 'grade level' is a result of someone piling on the minuses overnight.
Love it.

Checkoff was GPL at version 3.8, looks like the dev had a change of heart. I have the 3.8 binary, and 3.6 source, put up in a fresh project on Sourceforge. If anybody has the latest code, please reply!

I could be wrong, but I think the bird is for Twitter, the heart is CoverSutra, and the three hearts is possibly the Skitch icon.

Finally I found what I was searching for, I tryed so many "to do" apps but in the end I was regularly using textedit and ending with a total chaos.
the menu bar feature is the TOP and the way to arrange notes is perfect.
A donation is on its way to the developer. thanks!

ps:"just a secondary detail, if there was the possibility to set the icons in a smaller size, that would be very appreciated, at least there are just 5 icons and are very easy to remember"

I use this on my (leopard) home mac, but i want to also use it on my work mac, which is running tiger. It works, but not very well. it is slow (think a thirty second to two minute delay, dependign on whaat i'm doing), but it works, although i wish that 3.6 was still available (i think that that one was the last native tiger version. if anyone knows where this can be found, email me (And if you have the 3.6 at your house, email it to me as an attachment with subject check off. willie.pryor@earthlink.net. thanks.

Shooting my own troubles... my first post was spectacularly wrong (I'm beiju). I said that there was a delay... well, that is not true. It just took me thirty seconds to two minutes of clicking to hit the gray part, which is the only part that will open the application. It does run pretty well under tiger, except for that it doesn't communicate well with other applications' windows... it usually opens under the active application and you have to click the window to bring it to the front. Still, that's no reason to not use a great app, although i'd still like the 3.6 version if anyone's still got it.

Links to files in the notes section work: click on them and the file opens. But the links do not remain. They disappear as soon as the list is retracted. Any suggestions?

frail47 had trouble on 02 Jun 2008
I installed this and then selected the option for it to startup when I log into my computer. I later restarted my computer to find that two stacks had been added to my dock (Documents and Downloads) Time Machine was also placed in my dock as well. I had previously not had those on there. I removed them, removed Check Off and all was fine. I then reinstalled Check Off only to have the same thing happen again.

Is there a reason why Check Off is causing this?

If a menu icon appears in the menu but doesn't load it's usually because it's set to "Hide" in System Preferences>Accounts>Startup Items. Turn Hide off and it will work at login. This is a bug in Panther.

The icon is still "locked" when I reboot - I have to launch the app again in order to have drop down menu appear. using panther 10.3.3 - this has ocurred in most previous versions - was hoping that this would be addressed.
