Safari Aquafier allows you to easily change Safari's brushed metal interface into an Aqua interface. The process is as simple as running the installer.
What's new in Safari Aquafier
Version 4.1 remedies issues users had when installing Safari Aquafier. To ensure that you are able to install Safari Aquafier 4.1 without any issues, you will need to have administrator privileges and have Safari installed in its default location.
I've found that aquafier works fine until I got to close a tab at which point the entire app quits. This happens with both a key command or a mouse click. Otherwise it is a great addon to Safari.
Looks like it did nothing to Safari, but made
all the system blues, a deeper blue and sharpened
up the text to a blacker black. Also, I now seem
to have trouble clicking on things to get them
to do something. There's a longer time delay,
like the program is busy doing something else.
While this is very promising, and does work, it seems to me that there are certain flaws. (1.) It should be a seperate app, which allows you to set/unset the Aqua interface for that browser whenever the user pleases. And (2.) It needs an uninstaller incase the user gets sick of it and ever decideds to remove it.
Since it does not have either of those I don't recommend it for users and it is potentially buggy. I can't installed 1.5 unless I completely delete 1.0.5 which just aint right.
Let me get this straight - Safari is at version 1.2. There have been less than a dozen versions of Safari since it's initial release, and that includes leaked builds. Yet this program is at version 4.1, performs an utterly trivial task, and STILL requires you not move Safari from the default location?? What kind of **** is this? That is shoddy programming at its worst.
I only wished it had worked. The only thing about Safari I don't like is the skin and I looked forword to a change but it didn't work. Error upon installation.
Tak - sorry, but Safari Aquafier is not compatible with non-English localized versions of Safari. However, if you right click on Safari, choose Show Package Contents, open the Contents folder, then the Resources folder, and then the English.lproj folder and copy the .nib files from it into the .lproj file for Japanese, this should solve the problem.
Hope this helps!
Cool! Now Safari looks like the best of Firebird and Safari together. My life was getting a little too gray looking at Safari. Thank you for brightening it up! And thank you for making an uninstaller!
Worked great! Also a added side benefit. . . . It uses less memory!!! From 4.5% to 2.5%. The is a little harsh after looking at the grey but if it uses less memory, I'll get used to it in time.
I have lots of memory, but I like to see apps. run lean.
All in all, real sweet!
Completely unnecessary. I prefer the Aqua look, but 14 megs for a little interface hack is too much. Get Unsanity Metallifizer. You can use it to disable or enable brushed metal in any cocoa app, not just Safari. (unsanity.com)
The problem with receiving 1.1 is because our domain name is in the process of being transfered. 99% of ISPs have already transfered the domain, but yours probably hasn't yet. You can download the latest version, 1.3, only from our new server. Here is a link that will work to get the new version with uninstaller - http://scifie.tempdomainname.com/SafariAquafier.dmg.sit . I'm sorry for the trouble.
I've downloaded Aquafier several times now only to receive version 1.1 each time. As a result, there is no uninstaller.
While I thank you for the freeware, I don't like the all white "aqua" look. I want to revert back to the brushed metal. [Without doing a reinstall of Safari if possible;-)]
But Muggsy, ya ARE in a submarine! This is just white and more white. I'd rather the very narrow band of brushed metal than endless white upon white. DULL. Makes my bloody eyes hurt. The bars are still the same...just plain old washed out...white! Use Explorahore if you hate what Apple does so much. In fact...just go ahead and switch right over to XP. Plenty of fake aqua in there.
Ahhhhhhhhhh! Much better. That brushed metal look makes me feel like I'm in a submarine or something. Aqua is much prettier. More airy.
Now if we could just do something about those navigation icons. Yuck!
