MoreClocks

3.7
12 March 2006

Multi-clock, alarm and countdown tool.

Overview

MoreClocks tells the time with different types of clocks. It has a multi-alarms feature, and a multi countdown clock. Alarms can be used with any clock. More Clocks contains also a perpetual calendar, and a time zones window list. Any of this functionalities are available through the status bar clock icon in the menubar. This icon shows you the time and the presence of alarms. Numerical clocks can be presented as 24 hours or 12 hours am/pm clocks. Analog clocks with or without seconds needle. In this version, it's possible to remove the dock's icon and the menubar.

What's new in MoreClocks

Version 3.7: Universal. Now MoreClocks can run natively on both PowerPC and Intel Mac.

I am a student learning Cocoa. I downloaded MoreClocks 2.1 and 2,5. When I compiled and run the program, it crushes/exit with errors signal 11 /10 on latest version of Mac. In MyAppDelegate.m, i put a NSLog to see which one is executed (either IF or ELSE) and found out that it never executes the one in if, but always go to else statement. -(void)initAlarms { NSUserDefaults *userDefaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSString *name; name = [self nextAlarmSetterDefaultsName]; while(TRUE) { if( nil!=[[userDefaults objectForKey:name]autorelease]) { [self setAlarmWithDefaultsName:name withDialog:NO]; name = [self nextAlarmSetterDefaultsName]; } else break; NSLog(@"Error Here"); //I PUT NSLOG HERE TO TEST. } } Thanks. Regards, Ruth

That's not really a good place to discuss about this kind of thing. You must go into some developper forums to do it. Here it's only a place for user review !

This software is really neat... but there's one thing i'd REALLY like to see.. which is a countdown timer that runs in milisecs.. IE: moves real fast for that cool impressive look. If the author were to add that, I'd definately plunk down some cash for it as i've never seen any other program give a milisec countdown timer (a la independance day).

According to MacUpdate this is version 3.1.3, but this is in fact version 3.1.4 (select "Get Info" once downloaded). I have wanted a menubar alarm clock and timer for a long time. I wanted an application that would not appear in the dock but would appear in the menubar. I am glad to have found MoreClocks. I don't know or see what the difference is between a "Floating" and "Normal" clock. Toggling between them does not change anything. Since I did not want a clock at all, I selected the clock to be "In Dock" and then checked the "No Menu, No Dock Icon" button. The "No Menu, No Dock Icon" button did not work for me. Then I read on the application's webpage that, "Once you have checked the checkbox, you must restart the application in order to make this option work..." This step did get the hiding to work. I would like more options for setting alarms, such as every other week, weekdays only, etc. You can copy the way iCal sets alarms if you need a model for full flexibility. The clocks to choose from are lovely. The "Clock's Drawer" is helpful and well implemented. I love being able to command-click on the menubar icon to set a new alarm. I wish the count down allowed for different types of beeps. I would also recommend implementing a stopwatch timer (counting up). I wish the menubar icons were a bit smaller (not as tall), so that they matched the size of my other menubar icons (Cee Pee You, Check Off, TigerLaunch, My Favorite Things, HimmelBar, BackLight, Recent Tunes, etc.). Could you offer them scaled down slightly? Also, I loved that the menubar icon was in black and white, as are all of the icons for the other applications I mentioned (or I have set each of them to a black and white icon in the preferences). But after I clicked on the MoreCLocks icon the first time, it became black and turquoise. Please allow for the option of it staying black and white. Lastly, I love the pop-up calendar that appears when you click on the menubar icon, but it appears all the way on the right side of the screen, and I wish it would drop down directly below where the MoreClocks menubar icon is located. According to the application's help page, this application is freeware, but on the website the developer asks that you buy a $10.00 shareware license. The registation reminder, which occurs every third time the application is launched, appears behind other windows and makes the application appear broken (the system beeps when the menubar icon is clicked, and you can't see that the registration reminder has appeared because it is behind all of the finder windows). Please have the reminder window pop into the foreground when clicking on the menubar icon.

When the clock is "Floating" it can't be hide by any other window. When the clock is normal it works as any other window. This functionality is provided only for the desktop clock (not the menu bar clock). I'll take in acount all your good suggestions in a next release. Thank's for your comments. Luc.
