ZWILLIAMS To the dev: Stop using StuffIt to compress for distribution. There are tons of better, less bloated, faster, and free compressor tools. Do not force us to download a relic of software because you think it is a de facto standard. (Version 2.0.1)

MPlayer OSX Extended | Aug 20 2008 |
ZWILLIAMS Pretty good so far, with one exception. Sudden system crashes. I dug through the console and everything was okay. Nothing in the console had any direct connection to MPlayer Extended. The only notable item is that just before the system crash occurs the very last entry is always MPlayer Extended related. However the system crash only occurs when MPE is being paused (not every time but like once out of a dozen clicks or so.) I've never had such a problem and have not had a crash in about 3 months of operation. While I can't say for a certainty that it is indeed MPE, the application is my primary suspect. Not to detract from this application being a great (and very welcomed to my Applications Folder) project. Cheers to the dev/maintainers. (Version rev5)

iBackupSafari | Jun 27 2008 |
JORIS VERVUURT This application is just for people who want to do it easy. Not everybody wants to go into his System folder... And when you export the bookmarks from safari, they wont get imported in the bookmarks menu and the bookmark bar... They will be placed in a folder. (Version 1.0)

iBackupSafari | Jun 27 2008 |
CALL ME YO DADDY The fact that this restores the bookmarks bar menu is all the reason to use this. Simply backing up your book marks list does not do this. (Version 1.0)

SJK > Not everybody wants to go into his System folder... ~/Library/Safari isn't the System folder (i.e. /System). > The fact that this restores the bookmarks bar menu is all the reason to use this. Simply backing up your book marks list does not do this. Whenever I've copied ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist to a different system the Bookmarks Bar is always preserved. (Version 1.0)

iBackupSafari | Jun 28 2008 |
CALL ME YO DADDY Yes but when you restore it, are your bookmarks automatically placed back in your bookmarks bar or a separate folder? (Version 1.0)

iBackupSafari | Jun 29 2008 |
SJK The Bookmarks Bar is identical on whichever system I copy ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist to. It shows up both under the toolbar and as a Bookmarks Bar collection, as expected. Ever since Safari's existed I've been copying my designated master Bookmarks.plist file to different systems and it's always worked that way. I wouldn't still be doing it if it behaved differently. (Version 1.0)

iBackupSafari | Jun 29 2008 |
SJK The developer stated a purpose for it and people with little technical savvy might appreciate it. Surely it could be smaller, and not have separate English and Netherlands versions. I'd prefer to use rooSwitch (Lite), a more generalized app that can "backup/restore" Safari and other apps with different profiles and is only a 1.7MB download. (Version 1.0)

The Unarchiver | Nov 17 2007 |
ZWILLIAMS Still runs excellent in Leopard. However there is a few quirks (not sure if it is at the hands of Leopard or Unarchiver): 1) ZIP file icons go blank. 2) When opening a ZIP file, regardless of how often you have chosen to run Unarchiver the same request box (stating that the software was downloaded) pops up. MACUPDATE ADMIN Did you use any utils such as AppleJack to do a "deep clean" of your system caches (and the other routines that AppleJack can do)? I've installed this on two very different Macs (new MacBook Pro and an old iBook G3, and I did nothing whatever to 'prepare' these Macs before installing Safari 3.0, as I do not use any addons/plugins) and it just works, faster and better than ever. Should do so on your machine too. (Version 3.0b)

VLC Media Player | Jan 7 2007 |
ZWILLIAMS Indeed Flip4Mac and VLC are unable to play protected content. Microsoft sharing its drm codebase could be disasterous for them if it were to be leaked to the public. Also it helps them keep their strangehold of Windows Media Player on customers. The latest version of WMP for the Mac does not support the latest DRM either. (Version 0.8.6a)

ZWILLIAMS You're telling me that you don't remember Microsoft's bomb last year? You don't recall ANYTHING from last January when Microsoft announced to entire Mac Community that they would be discontinuing Windows Media Player for the Mac and their new Partnership with Telestream? It was on every single Mac News site last January. Check MacNN, MacMinite, MacCentral (MacWorld), Slashdot, MacSlash, ArsTechnica, AppleInsider, MacRumors, Mac News Bytes, Mac Observer, Think Secret, even DaringFireball had articles on it. Hell it is even announced on Microsoft's Windows Media Player for the Mac mini-site. You seriously need to pay attention and actually do a little research into what you're using. Cripes, that is a dangerous thing if you're just downloading and using stuff if you don't have a good grasp on the company or people behind it. (Version 0.8.6a)

VLC Media Player | Jan 5 2007 |
You just aren't informed are you? Microsoft is WORKING WITH (Telestream) Flip4Mac and has given them the codebase to work with along with a licensing deal. It is a lot easier to work with other formats when the company behind them gives you access to the codebase for the codecs. Don't blame me for you being out of touch with the Mac Community. It is pretty well known information, and I'd suggest you actually keep up with news in the Mac Community instead of complaining about other people's replies. http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=windowsmedia (Version 0.8.6a)

ZWILLIAMS "The "bloat" you state about Toast is due to the MANY MORE FEATURES available." "LiquidCD is a simple burner - which is fine - but it has less than 25% of Toast's features." Please find something on Toast that I can't recreate without Toast. Those so called "MANY MORE FEATURES" are just bloated and often used extras. I can create data media, music media, video media, and copy and create disc images. So tell me of all these features missing? "Left off - LiquidCD is Tiger-only. Toast 7 allows the vast majority of Mac users who are still at Panther to use it." If you ignore the fact that you are forced to use a G4 or later, many of which Panther users do not have. "Roxio is a major company, and their support will be vastly superior to what the LiquidCD developer can supply." Sounds like someone is on the company payroll. I find it sad that LiquidCD which has only been out a fraction of the time is a better product and for free. (Version 7.1)

UZOMBIE It is suggestions like LiquidCD that keep me coming back to MacUpdate! Thank you! I didn't know of that product. Why don't you say something positive instead of negative? Having a bad day, are wee?
