Suitcase Fusion 2
May 7 2009

WNP  Suitcase Fusion is a good font manager, but it still is unstable. Over a few months of use, I had to completely rebuild my font database and sets twice. This can happen but it brings me to the real point: Poor quality of support. They do answer questions rapidly (more or less), but in both cases, they end up telling me to reinstall the application and rebuild de database. In one instance it was worse... they told me to reinstall the system! Which I didn't do and switched to FontExplorer. But when SF2 came out, by loyalty I upgraded although they took ages to bring us a major upgrade, with few enhancements and a much higher price.

Please note that I submitted a crash log which clearly indicated some errors wth SF2, but they would not give me a feddback on that matter, neither telling that they would consider and address this bug in a future release.

Regarding the auto-activation feature, it works well, except that it takes a very long time and does not always activate the proper font. A classic example is if you use Helvetica Neue LT std Bold in an Xpress doc, but also have Helvetica Neue in the database, it ends up by replacing the font with HelveticaNeue with the bold attribute, which is not good for sending the file to the printing bureau.

Things
Jan 7 2008

WNP  This preview of Things looks nice and works fine but lacks many features.

It is essential for a task manger GTD style to be able to grab things from different context (mails from Mail, URL from Safari, link files from Finder, etc.).

Some are on the feature list of Things, but what worry me is that it might take months to get them. There are too many developers who work alone or in very small teams. Once they have finished a product, they start with another and the first one don't evolve. For exemple XyleScope, from the same developer, is a great software but didn't evolve as promised, even in small details, as compare to other author who are very active.

Saft
Nov 15 2007

WNP  Same problem here with Saft Leopard. I paid the update but it is unstable, make Safari hang and impossible to print. M. Hao Li do not answered my email.

Another annoying thing is that Saft has to be launched as an application to launch Safari. The problem is that if you open an URL from another application, it launch Safari without Saft.

iCalMenu
Oct 9 2006

WNP  As it's not possible to test the app, for the 99 penny I thought go ahead! So did I.

Unfortunately it's a joke! This app launch iCal prior to add the event. So what's the point? If iCal is launched, it's quicker and nicer to add the event directly in iCal.

InerTrak
May 11 2006

WNP  When installing, I checked to add alias in the Dock. It defaulted my Dock so I had to look for my Dock preferences in my backup, replace them and restart Dock.

It's funny how developpers release their products without testing them thoroughly.

WNP  It's a good start but not as reactive as BuddyPop which also offer much more options, like personalize the Address Book fields to display and to search into, call by Skype, send and receive SMS, etc.

Yank
Mar 13 2006

WNP  Looks good, unfortunately I was never able to try it since I got the message "demo version only uninstall the last yank file" (or something like that) lathough it was the 1st time I tried it!

I wrote to the editor and never got any answer. Bad point :-((( I stick to AppZapper, cheaper with a quick and responsive support.

Letter Star

WNP  Well I also enjoy it but it has a few bugs and moreover the developper didn't upgrade it since more than a year. He spent more time with MenuCalendarClock... probably more profitable!

Now, with Tiger, there are even more bugs (that's I insert an address and it prints with another). I'm looking forward to see an update coming out.

WNP  Just ugraded through Paypal and cannot download the software. Getting "Account locked" message.

What I hate is that there is no email address, no support page, no way to contact the author. Very bad!
