When compared to other comparison utilities - Chipmunk is sorely behind the pack. Program has no contextual menus, lacks ability to reveal duplicates it finds, and its documentation is poor. It is faster than the other comparison utilities but users will want to "quick view" files to make sure they are really duplicates and Chipmunk provides no way to do this (even via the Finder). Each duplicate needs to be exposed by clicking on a "drop down" triangle - there is no way to "Select All" or "Select Multiple" to expand more than one at a time - Printout of the duplicates only mirrors exactly what you have expanded, listings are clipped with regard to long file names/paths in output. HIghly suggest looking at Tidy It Up which is $30 - well worth the $10 cost.. Chipmunk also crashed during my evaluation - requiring rescan of directory/hard drive. On the Positive side - the graphical interface to the directory tree is pretty cool - as to selecting whether to eliminate duplicates outside of the node or within the node - but again - even the procedure for this is not really clear in terms of the online help.. I think it is a good start for this type of program - but it is too highly priced for its very very limited capabilities.

After reviewing their examples and some of the feedback, it makes me want to consider taking video again... I usually have taken videos while waterskiing and snow skiing, and to tell you the truth - I felt that I was better off taking multiple stills instead of a video... This utility actually could get some of us who gave up on video, back taking it..

Continued comment...

Demo is too restrictive... XML was not openable via .plist editor, HTML and WORD output not available for eval, There is NO online help, Prior reviews probably based upon it being freeware or donateware... For $19 (not counting today's special) - you are better off with GIMP.. Text to voice conversion is built into the Mac.. Does not process .xls files and there is no diagnostic saying it won't.

Really hard to evaluate when most of its functionality is turned off in the eval copy.

Have tried out briefly.. It appears that HTML and Word Output are disabled in the eval.. It does however extract text from a lot of types of documents... I believe it is running the Unix strings command on the file passed to it..

Great sound effects when you add files to the batch. Seems to be really quick on PDF to text (if you ever waited on Reader to do this... it is slow).. Overall probably worth the investment... wonder if it is Word 2007 compatible on the output..?

Very high end backup program which watches what files you change to offer very fast backups, along with logging... I just wish that it supported a mechanism by which changes to a file could be archived instead of the entire changed file... A program called UPDiff supported this under OS 9.. and have never seen a utility do it on OS-X... I will be testing further to see if it does..

I was actually very surprised by the performance benefits yielded by tuning my system. I expected that performance tuning would only yield 1-2 % ... when actually I received benefits of up to 50% in certain circumstances.. the cost of the IPNetTunerX comes close to the cost of 1 month of high speed service from my ISP, so in a way you could say it pays for itself in a month... I was really surprised.

Gives GC (Graphics Convertor) a run for the money. GC supports more batch mode operations, but ViewIt is much "slicker" in terms of response time, ease of use, and even supports sequencing within the proof sheet. I had my doubts about evening checking the program out considering I have been using GC so long.. I was really surprised - well worth the price - especially if you need to filter out photos quickly.

Software offers 2 unique features not seen in most programs that offer encryption of data..

- the definition of templates (by group) defining the data fields to collect info for (new in SOHO notes this month).

- the ability to insert and extract information via AppleScript. Only trick is that you have to remember your script is sending your password via an appleevent in the clear... Impressive..
