Scrivener

WHITEMERE  I've used this product for a while and have tested a number of the other varieties around and found Scrivener by far the most user-friendly and intuitive of the products out there. Not that the others were bad - I tried Story Mill for a long while but just didn't find it as easy to work with as Scrivener.

Only reason that I'm prompted to post a review now is that I had the problem with the post Snow Leopard 'esellerate' crash and was impressed with the speed of response from Keith. That kind of excellent, responsive customer service really is worth mentioning.

WHITEMERE  Yeah what Trondah said.

As it happens I think Glims is pretty stable myself and is the best out of all the Safari add-ons I've used over the last few years (thinking saft / safari stand etc.) although they all tend to do slightly different things.

But having a go at someone for posting fairly innouous negative feedback is ridiculous. So anyone not posting a glowing comment, or who fails to namecheck a variety of other products when they may not exist anyway, is supposed to keep quiet or be thought of as a competitor or, what was that, a 'disgruntled friend'?

In my experience the underhanded competitor types are more likely to mention their own product anyway and troll the boards looking for similar products before slagging them off and hyping up their own.

WHITEMERE  Absolutely great app - used it for a few years now and is so simple and efficient you forget it's not just part of the OS.

For those having trouble using it with Leopard straycat posted a fix on the developer's homepage: http://stashbox.org/217632/sidenote.app.zip

I find that version works absolutely fine for me now as of 10.5.6 (i.e. no strange blue arrows in expose, sidenote slips in and out just by mousing over the screen edge again instead of having to 'select' it from expose etc.)

Still not so good with spaces apparently but as I don't use spaces I don't find that a problem.

JEANNETOURETTE  Who is straycat? Thanks to her so much, it works also on 10.6.: sidenote pops up even when an app's window is filling the whole screen, but in exposé/spaces, no annoying white window is seen!

now it is the way it should be (IF it keeps the content of my notes safe - in the past sometimes the frontmost note's content was empty after a restart of the computer, i had to restore from time machine, losing always some recent notes. but this hasn't happened for a while - maybe because i use the force-save option always now!?)
