WAMEZ  I tested this out with a couple of small projects when it was first released and really fell in love with the simplicity.

WAMEZ  I got this from MacHeist and was shocked to find it useful. I can't update mine anymore but I'm definitely thinking about paying for the upgrades.

WAMEZ  I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 which connects to my Mac via USB. I, too, was unable to get anything off of the Garmin with this application. It just says:

Bad cmdsend r 0 sz 12

Don't know if it's compatible with my Forerunner, but there doesn't seem to be a list so hard to say.

PIERRE BERNARD  HoudahGPS is merely a front end to GPSBabel. Please refer to the GPSBabel documentation for a list of supported devices.

I couldn't test it with all devices out there, but many people use GPSBabel with great success. The catch is that in order to get Wintec compatibility, I had to resort to a beta version of GPSBabel. This appears to have problems with Garmin devices that I was not aware of when releasing.

You might want to swap out the bundled version of GPSBabel for the latest stable version. Or you could wait for the next version of GPSBabel. When that is released I will issue an update to HoudahGPS.

BLLOYD  If you want a good Mac application that works with the Garmin, look at Ascent by Montebello software.

I just found out about it last week -- it is FANTASTIC for cycling/hiking/running/whatever GPS use, specifically with the Garmin Edge and Forerunner computers.

Works with Google Earth, gives you ALL sorts of data... it is FAR better than the apps Garmin gives you.

WAMEZ  I know that Garmin's been promising Mac support for a while, but I've only been aware of them since Garmin Training Center for Mac came out. I got a Forefunner 305 a month ago and I've been nothing short of impressed. The unit itself is amazing, but the integration with the Mac has been flawless. Training Center, WebUpdater...they just work.

It helps that there are some other enterprising individuals (the developers for TrailRunner and LoadMyTracks) who have opened up the possibilities even more.

I never imagined that I'd be in the market for a GPS device for the car, but after my experience so far, I'm considering it. If you want new customers, this is the way to get them.
