VAGABUNDO  Several months ago when looking for a simple notes application, I came across meinKOPPPro. I was impressed with its overall feature set, UI and low price tag and so I rushed and gave it a 5 star rating. Sadly, I now have to recant it. As a started using it more and more, a number of bugs became apparent. Some not to bad, others too annoying they were hard to ignore. With time, I just couldn’t put up with them and so I stopped using it overall.

Still, I think meinKOPPPro is a well thought out multi-task application that would serve people well when not needing or wanting to delve into a similar but more complex one such as DEVONthink Professional if and when the bugs get worked out. For me, they were to much to handle and sadly I had to part with it.

VAGABUNDO  PIXIAPPS, please don't get me wrong. As I mentioned, I greatly appreciate the dedication put into creating alternative software, and that includes all the time and effort it takes to develop it.

I agree with you, Ecoute is simple, easy to use and has a gorgeous UI. Maybe I need to play with it a little longer to see if this simplicity justifies paying for functionality I already have in iTunes. Again, having choices is a good thing.

VAGABUNDO  I greatly appreciate people’s passion and dedication to create alternative software. Having choices is good, and it makes total sense to spend some extra money for third party applications that improve or surpass functionality of those that come with OS X. But without wanting to be too critical I wonder, does it make sense to pay for an application that doesn’t offer improvement over iTunes? Ecoute, the developer says, doesn’t require iTunes to be launched, but then, what is the benefit when you still have to launch Ecoute?

PIXIAPPS  If you're asking why would you pay for that, you should also ask why would you pay for others iTunes Controller or some other sharewares that got free alternatives.

Making a software like "Ecoute" is an hard work. Even if as iTunes, Ecoute does less, it does more more and more than iTunes concerning Music Player.

First of all, it's simple and easy (forgive me, but iTunes is not so simple at all). You can browse your music on Ecoute as you browse your music on the iPhone. The UI is very nice, it has keyboard shortcuts (more than iTunes), it can display lyrics just like the iPhone, search for missing artworks and apply them, and more and more.

There's some things that iTunes cannot do but Ecoute can.. as there's some things that Ecoute cannot do but iTunes can.

Ecoute can be a very good alternative as a music player for some users. I completly understand if you are not interested in this lightweight player, but try to imagine the work behind it anyway :)

PIXIAPPS  Sincerely, I think you should test it for about 2/3 (or 15-day trial :p ) .

Then, write a review on MacUpdate about Ecoute, even if you don't like this soft at the end of your test-period.

VAGABUNDO  SizeUp is really good. But it is missing my most used window positioning: Upper Center.

VAGABUNDO  I reposted this review at the link below, which is where meinKOPPPro 1.1 is listed. This is meinKOPP 4.0.1, which perhaps doesn't have some of the features the Pro has, but I don't know. Try it! it's excellent!

VAGABUNDO  This is excellent! ToDos, notes, snippets, quickies, web view (yes, web browser!), all centralized in one gorgeous, unique and easy to use application.

I invite you all to visit Michael’s website and check his other excellent products. He is not only a great developer, he is a very kind human being.

VAGABUNDO  I'd like to know the logic behind the idea to present potential buyers with a not fully functional demo. I downloaded this app and played with it for 2 to 3 days. But as soon as I realized some of its features were disable, down it went to the trash. I won't pay for an app just to evaluate it and see if it meets my needs.

The application looks good, but without me being certain the disable features work as intended or not, I'm giving it a one star rating for lack of functionality.

VAGABUNDO  I have been using SuperDuper! for almost two years now on a weekly basis. I could not say it is the best in its class for I haven’t tried its competitors. But I don’t need to. SD has so far performed flawlessly...not a single crash on me. Now, that’s stability.

VAGABUNDO  "The user interface is not standard and it's also not very "discoverable."

WHAT? The user interface is clean and beautiful! I don't understand what you mean by saying it's not very "discoverable." It doesn't get any easier to navigate its feature set.

VAGABUNDO  From the developer's site, “A trial version has a limited feature set when compared with the unlocked version. These extra features can be unlocked at any time by entering a valid user license.” Non-sense. To obtain a license, you must pay for it, and to pay for it, it would be wise to fully evaluate the application. The question then is, how could you fully evaluate an application with a limited feature set?

Kudos to developers who provide a fully functional demo for a period of time or a number of launches instead. It’s not the case here.

VAGABUNDO  After trying various applications for secure data management, I have settled with info.xhead. It’s simple yet powerful, full-featured and solid like a rock. What it does, does it very well.

It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of other application, such as loading app icons, for example, and this is another reason I chose it for. It looks less superficial and more discrete.

One thing I would like to see in a future update though: the ability to save files in its database. But this is something I can live without.
