TWISTED  Fast, light and easy to use! The GUI is beautiful.

The last.fm support is also very welcome, you can leave shouts :)

Cashculator
Nov 4 2009
***..

TWISTED  The idea behind is really nice - but Cashculator still need more interface refinements and more customization: there’s no way to change the category icon or to restore the default ones, to change the text size. The insertion of expenses should be easier to use (it cuts off decimal values btw). The average planning is hard to understand and it seems buggy, as well adding/removing categories sometimes messes the interface (I had to restart it). Overall the software would be easier to use just with some GUI improvements and if more respectful of Apple design guidelines. I will look forward for the next versions before buying it.

I would like to see also a way to insert my actual account balance.

JIRA Client

TWISTED  Maybe because the standard HTML interface is really unusable... this software would make it better using JIRA. Too bad is not a native mac os x application, so the interface is still ugly...

PhotoRescue
Sep 15 2009

TWISTED  I bought PhotoRescue via RegSoft four days ago because it seemed to be able to recover the files in my corrupted SD card. Yay! ... BUT as today I'm still waiting for my serial number. RegSoft did not answered to my e-mail asking for information.

Maybe because accidentally I've opened the card through the Finder, now the demo version cannot recover the pictures anymore! I've lost a lot of time and my hope to recover my pictures just because this crappy buying method. The next time I will search for the pirated version!

TWISTED  Yes it is expensive for something we can do without paying anything. BUT working everyday with SVN there's nothing better than an awesome experience with a well-working software with a delicious interface.

TWISTED  Mailplane improved a lot my experience with gmail, but it still needs some new feature or other ideas for doing gmail better on desktop. 25$ are a bit too much anyway.

Flickery

TWISTED  I like this application a lot, the full screen mode is a win :)

It needs still some improvements, for example more commands to download/backup, the ability to drag and drop images, and I would try to replicate the others flickr features - but improved :)

Another idea would be an improved photo grid: maybe with different design - why not a cover flow mode - and more information about the photos (is it private? how many new comments since my last visit? how many comments in total? which tags does it has? how much views? etc.)

Inquisitor
Aug 29 2009

TWISTED  i wrote the developer for some news, he answered quite drily that "it's common knowledge that it was sold to Yahoo!".

At the end of the story I'm starting to curse Yahoo and theirs absurde acquisitions... I find Inquisitor really useful, too bad it is not open source.

Glims
Aug 29 2009

TWISTED  Well :) Invasive means also put "About Glims" under the "About Safari" menu.

Under the hood it means that it was not easy to understand in which case it was interfering with my browsing or not. Too much firefox-style features. If there's no better alternative, it's better no alternative at all. I was searching for an alternative to Inquisitor (there's a bad bug there with Safari 4.0.3): people seemed very enthusiast with Glim; after a try it recalled me my stressful win+firefox experience: the extensions hell! :)

I think the developer should take care about the ease of use and the interface, at least following the last guidelines.

At the end I found with SafariTabs + Inquisitor a better alternative... Keep Safari as-is and you'll be happy!

Hope i answered your questions :)

bye

TWISTED  Inquisitor improved my way of searching on the Internet! I really love it and it ease of use and config. Too bad that is not working well with Safari 4.0.3. Just hope the developer will do something soon!

TWISTED  Glims has sure a lot of useful features, but sometimes it is not easy to understand how to get them working. It could make Safari unstable or not working as you expect. Preferences pane has a poor interface and the software is too much invasive for me.

DOOBIEXX  Soooooo you recommend what alternative(s)? Or are there none in your opinion. When I read something like this, I ask myself what other apps you are using instead and why none are mentioned... Whenever I read a straight shot at the app, no suggestions just jabs it makes me question the validity of the review. Competitor? Disgruntled friend? That's why this site exists, so we can trade info/compare our feelings about apps. You just said no, offering us no other alternative and the review/comment is, well, useless to us. Thanks for your opinion but what app(s) is/are not as intrusive? I appreciate the post and look forward to a response so I can try one of your "picks" out. Thanks.

TRONDAH  To doobiexx: Are you saying that because there aren't any alternatives, we can't criticise the product? Doesn't sound right to me. The reviewer's remark were spot on if you ask me. Bad interface, too invasive, breaks easily.

WHITEMERE  Yeah what Trondah said.

As it happens I think Glims is pretty stable myself and is the best out of all the Safari add-ons I've used over the last few years (thinking saft / safari stand etc.) although they all tend to do slightly different things.

But having a go at someone for posting fairly innouous negative feedback is ridiculous. So anyone not posting a glowing comment, or who fails to namecheck a variety of other products when they may not exist anyway, is supposed to keep quiet or be thought of as a competitor or, what was that, a 'disgruntled friend'?

In my experience the underhanded competitor types are more likely to mention their own product anyway and troll the boards looking for similar products before slagging them off and hyping up their own.
