TWELVEIGHTYONE This is awful software, does nothing that you can't do in Leopard - QuickLook and Spotlight. Back in 1990, this software had a purpose. Nowadays, it simply isn't necessary. It's slow, buggy and you spend more time trying to work out what's going on with your Mac than using it for its' intended purpose. (Version 8.5.2)

Adobe Illustrator CS4 | Feb 28 2008 |
TWELVEIGHTYONE I just wish someone at Adobe would give this company some direction. Vague update release notes, daft crop spraying of folders all over my hard drive, inability to strip unwanted language files from their apps (they stop working if you try to do it). Adobe, please remember - KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID! (Version 13.0.3)

OnyX | Feb 16 2008 |
TWELVEIGHTYONE I often wondered if it was just me who had seriously slow download speeds on OnyX! Same as you, starts off promisingly, then slows to a crawl. (Version 1.9.2)

A fair comment, it does take a long time, much longer than Tiger. The only reason I posted my message is because I have known people who Repair Permissions almost daily, thinking it is some kind of 'cure-all' for problems. From what you have said, you are using the procedure correctly (not that I mean to patronise you) and I agree that it does seem to take a long time.

How often do you repair Permissions? You should only really perform this if you are suffering from unexpected problems. There is no need to do this daily, weekly or even monthly. I hope this information is useful. (Version 10.5.2)

Transmission | Feb 1 2008 |
TWELVEIGHTYONE Transmission, in my opinion, is an amazing little app. I've not had the memory leak problems others have described, and I've always had successful downloads. I did have a problem once where it took forever for Transmission to Quit, but that has been resolved. I really like the new look, very 'Leopard' like and easy on the eyes. I can't recommend this software enough. It's free, has a cool icon (like the gearsticks from Raleigh Grifters from the 80s) and gets me films and music for nothing. (Version 1.04)

Little Snitch | Jan 31 2008 |
I too got a Kernel Panic after updating to 2.0.2 but it happened when Leopard was updating cache files. After forcing a restart, all is well. 2.0.2 is a worthy upgrade. I am guessing Objective Development will make a small update to the installer to prevent the Panic, but it does not affect the actual installation of Little Snitch. (Version 2.0.2)

TWELVEIGHTYONE A great piece of software, like others have said before I really like the new interface and the fact it is now NOT a System Preference. Rules are easy to configure, understand, edit and delete if not needed. But I really like the fact I can see easily whenever anything is trying to send data FROM MY MAC to somewhere I don't want it to go. All you need is Little Snitch. Thanks and Kudos to the developers. TWELVEIGHTYONE I've updated to version 3.0 Build 4560 but when I choose Get Info on the Application in Finder it still shows it as version 3 Build 4128.0 Is this correct behaviour? (Version 3.0.4560)

Adium | Mar 29 2007 |
TWELVEIGHTYONE Sorry Bob I didn't realise you can be upset so easily. You see, your comment said that Adium should have video, and I simply gave a link to the developers page and the reasoning behind the lack of video. This upset you? Please accept my apologies. I read nothing into your comments, but you seem to be very upset at what I have written. Again, I sincerely apologise for your upset into my genuine attempt to give you an answer to your request for video in Adium. I wasn't trying to offend you and maybe you should not read too much into people's replies, especially when it provides a link to an answer to your original comment, regarding video in Adium: "Adium depends on libgaim for its protocol-level functionality, which means that information sent or received over (most) protocols must go through libgaim. We therefore can not offer audio/video capabilities until libgaim does; the Gaim team is working on implementing such features, but there is not currently any ETA on when they will be available." Have a nice day! (Version 1.0.2)

TWELVEIGHTYONE Well it is a reason, just not a good enough one? Considering this is open source, free software, I think it is an entirely reasonable response from developers who are developing this application in their own time. You want video/voice integration to be included asap? Why not consider donating some of your time to the development? (Version 1.0.2)

TWELVEIGHTYONE http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/VoiceAndVideo There is a very valid reason why Adium doesn't (yet) support video. (Version 1.0.2)

Little Snitch | Feb 13 2007 |
TWELVEIGHTYONE Port 80 is the 'internet' port, as in all traffic that uses http:// will travel through port 80. It is not wise to completely block this port, because you will not be able to access the web! Well, you'll be able to access secure websites, because they use port 443 (https://). Ports are like doors into your computer. Some need to be open, some need to be locked. There is no 'solution', only one that is specific to your needs. For instance, Safari normally only needs access to ports 80 and 443 (normal sites and secure sites). But if you try to play a RealPlayer stream Little Snitch will ask if you want to open numerous ports. This is because Real uses different ports to send data to your Mac. The Little Snitch website has excellent advice regarding ports, and their developers are very quick at responding to questions. I'd suggest giving them a call/email. (Version 1.2.4)

TWELVEIGHTYONE Do people still use this POS software? Please, if you want to progress in the world of DTP, do yourself a favour and switch to InDesign. Quark 7, as with versions 3, 4, 5 & 6 is completely rubbish and hinders your productivity. (Version 7.1)

TWELVEIGHTYONE There's a nice new feature in 10.4.8, you can zoom in and out using your scroll wheel on your mouse or two fingers on your trackpad (if your Mac supports Trackpad gestures). Just hold down Control and scroll, and your screen zooms in on your cursor. Very nice :-) (Version 10.4.8)

FontExplorer X Pro | Aug 11 2006 |
TWELVEIGHTYONE When I started doing Graphic Design we used ATM Deluxe and it was excellent. Then OS X revolutionised our Macs, but sadly no one seemed to make a decent font manager. Font Book might as well not be there, Suitcase is a resource hog (and not very user friendly) and Font Agent crashed more times than Windows XP on a broadband connection with no firewall! Then came Linotype FontExplorer X, and I was completely blown away! The interface, the speed, the useability all make this app THE BEST font manager I have ever used (even better than ATM) If you are serious about managing your fonts, then get this app. I still can't believe it's freeware! Support is incredible, I emailed a question to them and got a personal response almost immediately - puts other compaines who charge for support to shame. Well done Linotype. (Version 1.1)

FROMAGE-HEAD Oh well I've never crashed with FontAgent even with 5000 fonts managed. ATM was not so good for browsing fonts, but I guess that's just due to interfaces evolution. Anyway I'm now using FontExplorer and I'm happy of it! The UI is far better than FA. (Version 1.1.1)

TWELVEIGHTYONE I really like this app. We have 4 G5's in work and they all had Suitcase, and they all had daily problems with fonts - duplicates, auto-activation not working, wouldn't restart due to Suitcase crashing etc etc. so much so I dumped it and activated all my fonts in FontBook and left it like that... until I discovered Font Explorer. Fast, easy to use, intuitive and STABLE even in Beta this app is definitly recommended for anyone who wants to manage their fonts without tearing their hair out. After 4 days testing on my G5 we decided to dump Suitcase from the remaining G5's and installed Font Explorer on them all. No more complaints, just easy font management, even for our 63 year old Graphic Designer! (Version 1.0)
