TOM46 I had the same problem with it running 10 or more processes. When I sent an inquiry to Intego support, they replied that it was "normal"! (Version 10.5.10)

TOM46 Correction: I purchased it in 2006, but using it--no. Every time I've tried, it's the same thing--eats up memory. I'm using a new Intel Mac mini with OS X 10.5.8. The tech support was no help whatsoever. (Version 10.5.10)

TOM46 Long ago, this used to be a great little app, simple to use and very functional. Now the gui is hopelessly confusing and for all practical purposes impossible to use. (Version 5.3.3)

XENOPHILE Jesus, that GUI is a disaster! Three rows of tabs? WTF is the developer thinking? (Version 5.3.6)

Bookdog | Nov 3 2009 |
JERRY KRINOCK I believe that Xenophile is referring to the three rows of white-on-black tokens just below the title bar in the screenshot shown above. If you would pull down the split bar below them you would see seven more rows. But they are not tabs :) They are *tags*. Tags are used in Firefox and Delicious bookmarks. The whole thing up there is called a *tag cloud*, as described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_cloud except that we didn't like the idea of different-sized tags, so instead we put the number of occurrences in square brackets after the word. How many rows you have in the tag cloud depends on how many tags you've added to your bookmarks. If they are Safari bookmarks, it will be zero, since Safari does not support tags, and the tag cloud is not shown. (Version 5.3.6)

First off - I notice from your earlier posts that you've been using VirusBarrier since at least 2006. VirusBarrier X5 is unnoticeable in terms of it's effects on newer Mac systems. It's possible that your system might be better off with a previous version of VirusBarrier - more suited to your specific system configuration. (By the way - we still support older versions of the operating system going back to OS 9 ) If this is truly not your experience with X5, please contact our technical support group at support@intego.com or call us toll free at 512.637.0700 to resolve your problem. I think you'll find our support group not only very knowledgeable but, also quick, professional and friendly. (Version 10.5.7)

TOM46 Have you tried OmniWeb? I switched to OmniWeb from Safari primarily because of its great cookie handling. I agree with you that Apple is missing the boat by not incorporating this feature into Safari. (Version 1.5.1)

TOM46 After the fiasco of Safari 3.1, I switched to OmniWeb as my main browser. It does all Safari did and more. Cookie management is excellent. Definitely a keeper! (Version 5.7 beta 1)

KRAIZED What Safari 3.1 fiasco? (Version 5.7 beta 1)

OmniWeb | Mar 22 2008 |
MACUPDATE ADMIN Indeed, what Safari fiasco? Doubtless a personal one. I've installed the latest Safari on several Macs, ranging from a 900 MHz G3 iBook to a two-month old iMac. No issues whatsoever. Safari Version 3.1 (4525.13) is better than ever. But whatever browser anyone wishes to use is just peachy with me. (Version 5.7 beta 1)

IGAUCHO There was a Safari 3.1 fiasco? Why didn't someone tell me!?!? (Version 5.7 beta 2)

OmniWeb | Mar 26 2008 |
ESPIRIDION Maybe it's a fiasco that Safari has greatly improved while OmniWeb has become stagnant? I've used OmniWeb for years, along with FireFox and Opera. I never liked Safari, but I gave version 3.04 a chance and so far it's impressive. Out of iCab, Opera, FireFox, Safari, and OmniWeb, OmniWeb is the one that has given me more problems. I sent numerous crash reports to Omni. Hopefully 5.7 will be a great browser once again. I'll wait for the final version. (Version 5.7 beta 2)

OmniWeb | Mar 26 2008 |
IGAUCHO There's a lot to like about OmniWeb. I'm a paid user myself. Unfortunately, there are some outstanding bugs that have yet to be fixed that keep me from using it for too long. For example, ratings on Amazon do not work. When you try to rate something, you are just given a blank page. This issue has been around for as long as I can remember. I truly fail to understand why Omni (who has some of the most talented programmers in the industry) can't get it working. OmniWeb is based on WebKit and they tend to use newer builds than what Safari uses, but the issue is still not fixed. (Version 5.7 beta 2)

OmniWeb | Jan 4 2008 |
TOM46 I tried OmniWeb mainly for its handling of cookies, which is excellent (very similar to SafariPlus, which has yet to be updated for Leopard). However, it is not quite as adept as Safari in its autocomplete function for URLs and forms (i.e, it doesn't actually complete the item, but gives you a choice of selections which requires another step to complete it). It also (incorrectly) tried to complete some entries on secure sites, which Safari knew not to do. (Version 5.6)

TOM46 The new version (2.0) is even better than the earlier one. What's more, the transition from 1.x to 2.0 is completely transparent to the user. Well worth the upgrade price. (Version 2.0)

TOM46 Yes, DW 4.0 does run a little faster. However, the new file checking routines are useless. Repairing permissions takes longer than doing the same thing wih Disk Utility, and DW reported erroneous problems with preference files—Preferential Treatment is a much better choice. Is it worth the money for the upgrade?—definitely not! (Version 4.0)

TOM46 I apologize for my previous hasty review. Further study shows that the user interface really isn't too bad (just takes getting used to). Ths documentation could stand some improvement, however. I think this one may be a keeper (replacing QuicKeys!). (Version 2.2.1)
