TOGGLEMEDIA There is nothing compelling about this new version. May be unlucky 13 for Stuffit...I can't actually remember the last time I used .sit or .sitx to send an archive to a client or supplier. I mean, Stuffit claims to have greater compression, but who cares if I can make a file a few kilobytes smaller. I know I don't. Poor SmithMicro, they have no clue what they've bought into. TOGGLEMEDIA Sorry, just wanted to add...I know it's only $20...but it's the principle...and this company does everything it can to squeeze cash out of us. I mean, when was the last time you upgraded to Toast and found a feature that was useful? I mean seriously, "enhanced window animations"? A new icon? Bah. (Version 9.0.2)

TOGGLEMEDIA Don't be fooled. There is very little reason to upgrade to this version. And I'm really not impressed with their marketing techniques. Take for example their website which promotes a $20 savings...and claims the software is now only $79. It's a lie. It's a mail in rebate..a mail in rebate which I mailed in, and just this morning got an email saying my rebate was denied. What??? Why would it be denied...I provided everything that the rebate form required. Their official reason, "Missing Proof of Previous Ownership" Are you kidding me???!!! I submitted exactly what the form required me to submit... including the serial number from a previous version. And now you are telling me that my rebate is invalid? I followed the instructions on the form perfectly. They are a bunch of criminals and liars...and will make getting your rebate so difficult so they don't actually have to HONOUR their promotion. It makes me sick and I am NEVER buying from ROXIO again...their software is sub par to begin with. Their upgrades are nothing worth upgrading too...and now this???? are you kidding me?????? STRIDER72 Personally I'm impressed that they're still releasing new updates to keep my old version 7 running on OS 10.5 Yeah, they gouge you on price, but it's difficult to argue that they don't make a good product. Their products are excellent. (Version 9.0.2)

GREGMLR No, Roxio products are absolute garbage, ESPECIALLY Toast. They wouldn't honor my rebate when I bought version 8. If Toast was made for Windows it wouldn't make it! I will never buy another Roxio product either. (Version 9.0.2)

TRONDAH I have to disagree, Toast is an excellent product. Personally I love the new HD features in version 9, if you don't need them then don't upgrade. Can't blame them for trying to make money, they have mouths to feed as well. As long as there are no alternatives I'm sure the price will stay as is. (Version 9.0.2)

CALMEFORET Thanks for letting us know. It is a truly disgusting way to go about making — or saving — money: first you make the customer waste time and energy, then he/she gets a lot of negative feelings for the trouble! I would stay away from any company that does this, if it is possible at all. (Version 9.0.2)

STRIDER72 By the way... did you keep a copy of the stuff you submitted? If so, you should clearly be able to show them that the form you sent had the correct info on it. I got the rebate when I upgraded from v5 to 7. Rebates are rejected sometimes for various reasons, (How's your handwriting?), but I cannot imagine that this company has some deliberate scheme to defraud its customers as you are claiming. This is a long established company, and the quality of their software is a completely separate issue from whether or not you got a rebate. Please review the **software** rather than venting your spleen over rebate policies. Saying "the software stinks because I didn't get my $20" is nonsense. (Version 9.0.2)

CALMEFORET Strider 72 has a balanced, fair-minded view. I have used Toast for many years myself and have gotten a lot of mileage from it, but I have been less than happy with Toast 8 (various problems for which I'm not sure to what extent the program itself is responsible), and I have not liked Roxio's attitude toward users, especially recently. I would say that the whole rebate idea already puts me off: if someone who buys a product gets $20 back, why not just give the discount right away and save everyone a lot of trouble? The only reason I can think of is that the company is banking on many people not bothering with the rebate, or what is FAR WORSE, their making some little 'error' that would disqualify them. The worst part to me is 1° being subjected to possible disappointment 2° WASTING time. This last point is important: if I waste time and energy sending in a rebate request and get nothing for it — whether or not it is my 'fault' — I resent it very much, and I feel triply cheated because the disappointment/resentment I am left ruins my day and is bad for my health. VANCOUVERYOGI On Roxio's home page there is a button labelled "Upgrade Center". I clicked on this button and then the "Toast 8" link and was offered the upgrade for $59.99. It appears to be an immediate discount (i.e. there's not rebate coupon to send in). I wanted to make sure people knew about this one. I don't know why this link is available on the home page but not in the Toast 9 product section. (Version 9.0.2)

TOGGLEMEDIA Yeah, I used the provided uninstaller...and I restarted. But the "Speed Download" contextual menu still shows up in safari. Odd. (Version 5.0)

TOGGLEMEDIA My version 4 of Speed Download also updated to version 5 without any indication that it would be a paid upgrade. Very bad business practices. I purchased Speed Download years ago, and have bought upgrades, and even just recently bought the MacHeist bundle....and now...I've uninstalled this product from my machine...never to use it again. ESPIRIDION From their site: You cannot simply trash the Speed Download folder to un-install it. You must use the included un-installer. Quit all browsers and any running copy of Speed Download. Run the SD Uninstaller (located in your Speed Download folder). Empty the trash. (Version 5.0)

TOGGLEMEDIA I also updated to 9.0.2 and the update hung halfway through the process, so I restarted and ran it again. It appears to have installed properly, but now when I quit Flash, it hangs on quit, and requires a force quit. (Version 9.0.2)

ChronoSync | Oct 3 2007 |
TOGGLEMEDIA I have been looking for a replacement for Retrospect for the last year, trying different pieces of software from the freewares (iBackup) to the high end stuff (netvault) and nothing had the simplicity and functionality that I was looking for. Until I stumbled upon ChronoSync. By far the best out there...in terms of functionality and usability. My biggest gripe with the other backup vendors out there, is their inability to properly perform tasks over a network, or configure for more than one workstation in a simple intuitive manner. SuperDuper for example makes it easy to create a scheduled sync, but editing that scheduled sync is impossible and you have to create a new scheduled sync (from scratch) it if you want to make any modifications. ChronoSync has none of these problems and I am very impressed with it's stability, scheduling, archiving, syncing and general backup features. (Version 3.3.5)

TOGGLEMEDIA Just to clarify, the Finder freeze up occurred on a G5 and G4, but not on my MacBook Pro. So it appears to be a PPC only bug. Hope this is helpful to the developers and anyone else deciding whether or not to run the update. (Version 11.0.1)

TOGGLEMEDIA I had been messing around with cleaner 6.5 trying to perform some basic video conversion, and it would crash at every step...I tried to troubleshoot and isolate why this was happening, but to no avail. So after stumbling upon Compression Master, I thought I would give it a try... and WOW!!! It has a great interface, and was "blazingly fast"...with not even a hiccup I encoded 10 files, in both QuickTime and WMV. Highly recommended. Comparatively cleaner 6.5 is a joke. (Version 4.0)

Microsoft Office 2004 | Mar 14 2006 |
TOGGLEMEDIA Wow! This update is sweet. Finally searching Entourage emails using spotlight is possible, and fast! And, the best feature of this update, being able to synchronize calendars and address book!!!! Wow! Priceless....I was expecting these features but not until Office 2006. Thanks MSBU! You guys rock. TOGGLEMEDIA There's nothing different about this "new" version 2. What's changed? Even the same bugs persist. And none of the shortcomings of version 1 have been addressed. Are they just trying to get more people to buy in? One more time on MacUpdate? I'm not impressed. (Version 2.0)
